Anyone used this stuff? I think their Wunderbar console is the sexiest thing on earth, but these 500 series units or channel strip are probably the closest I'll ever get. Do they sound as good as they look? Porn below...

Ditto on what John said. I've been using a PAFour for nearly 10 years. It's outstanding. Beautiful sounding preamps... Sort of neve-ish, with a bit less color, and a more open high end. But still some saturation in the sound. Awesome on pretty much anything.

I had 8 of the modules at one point. Nice sound, I was not impressed with the build quality. This was the first run modules though.

I go back and forth with Wunder. I've owned the CM7 and both the glass tube mics. I ultimately never got the sound I was looking for. A while back, I was in Vintage King and saw that they had a Flea and Wunder top o' the line 47 clones right next to each other. I sang through both and was shocked at how much bigger and fuller the Flea was. Now - who knows if everything was equal, broken, etc...

I had a some early run modules. build quality was meh. they sounded good but in the end kinda vanilla compared to my Neves,API etc. lots of hype when they came up..all "the take the veil of your sound" bullshit.

I'm 100% gonna get a Wunderbar when I win the jackpot...based on looks alone.
Here's some sonics for ya though...

24 ins 6 buss 4 aux 90K..nope Ouch ! When I was in TX there was a lot of Wunder floating around, the first couple of PA 4's I heard were really impressive, then I got to play with the modules, well I'll say they nailed the old never serviced British discrete thing in that no 2 sounded the same?😎

I TOTALLY thought the same thing. Confirming that I'm a dick.
Anyway, that recording was using (by my count) over $350,000 worth of gear.
For Free. On Youtube.

Just saying...how do you recoup any of this shit?

I don’t think that is recoupable. Some people have money and need to find something to do... So they do things like this. Like you said, there’s a lot of money behind this and that’s just the gear. The rest of us work our tails off and dream of having a board like that. Although as much as I love my Wunder pres, I’d look at a lot of other consoles before that one. The pres I think are just stellar. Really dig mine. The PAFour is pretty affordable, as opposed to most everything else they make. And the DI’s Sound killer. The Allotrope 500 EQ’s have always intrigued me but I’ve never had a chance to use one

I know The owner from my time in Austin and He does not have to recoup a dime from his investment I assure you. I have recorded at his Mansion and I think there is Dell money funding this operation from what I heard..... This being said the recording is really lackluster based on the pedigree of gear. Apparently I am also a dickish.....

I love Allotrope's, extremely musical eq for tracking. You can use them just about anywhere too, great eq for tracking.

Reviving another old one here - Anyone have experience with the Allotrope 500 EQ modules? I have a PEQ2R which basically has the same EQ as the Allotrope. It’s a beautiful sounding piece — similar EQ points to a 1073 but I find it to be smoother/richer/more refined. Great tracking EQ.

Thanks - I've heard a few guys says the low band is a standout. Overall those frequency points seem like they make for a super useful EQ all-around.
