I've been eye-balling this one since it came out. B&H has them for $350 which is kinda nutty if you ask me.
I'm looking for an additional two channel A/D/A AES in/out for my MH 2882. I love the flexibility of the 2882, but would like to have two more channels of pristine conversion, along with the extra preamps, and a good headphone amp.
Anyone using this thing? I don't care about the software, but the sound.
Thanks!

I have one thought it was good until I got my svart box You cannot bypass the preamps so not totally a fair fight but the svart AD killed the tascam I dident expect such a difference. On the DA side it sounds good but after my svart ad experience I am not sure.

On the DA side it sounds good but after my svart ad experience I am not sure. Yeah, kinda' seems like apples and oranges on the AD. But, how would you compare the DA side between the two? I have a UH-7000 and am liking it very much. Don't use it for tracking so much but rather monitoring while editing - sounds real nice to me. BTW, I wouldn't have any problem tracking through it - it'd make a good addition to the 2882 via the AES i/o, IMO. Especially for the low dough...

I only got the AD in my svart box so I just don't know. It sounds good to me but i havent got a high end DA to compare it to.

Ah, OK. Was looking for more info on the svart box, but can't find much on specs, price, etc. Is there a website with that info? Would love to read more... Thanks in advance!

You gotta read 47+ pages to piece it all together, sadly. I was thinking about grabbing the UH-7000 for multi purpose duty. One thing was to sum into it on the digital side. I discussed this with my Sweetwater rep and he said it was vanilla sounding. I don't think vanilla is a bad thing, necessarily. He then put me on to the Roland Super UA USB Interface as an alternative, but there are very few reviews on it. Check it: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SuperUA/The svartbox seems a little elusive. Maybe it's just me... Since the progress on it has waned, I've given up hope for any alternative versions of that one.

Thanks, guys. That's a LOT of reading, haha... I'd still like to check out the ID14 as a portable interface to throw in a backpack and go. But, I can't imagine it'd sound much better than the UH-7000 DA so I'm in no hurry. It's good to know there are lot's of great options out there!

I think Guitar preferred the UH-7000 to the Audient and sold his Audient, FWIW.

No 47 page reads needed. And I'm not sure what you mean by progress, as the development is done, and the first units are selling and shipping.

Not really. I'm not seeing anyone there that has owned both at the same time commenting. Seems to be just a bunch of spec readers or people that own one or the other justifying their decision. Not much head to head analysis. Personally, I'll trust Dan's view above, who owned and used both at the same time.

Honestly, I've owned maybe 10 different Tascam/TEAC products over the years. Each one had it's problems, and most of them let me down when I needed them the most. For all the USB/FW devices on both PC and MAC, the drivers were simply the worst. Random lockups, glitches, unexplained corruptions, etc.
I finally gave up on them.
Maybe they've fixed their issues since, but caveat emptor would be my suggestion with Tascam.

I felt like it was time to say something about my comparison so I made a fairly long post on that thread that goes into detail on what I liked and didn't like.

svart had a spare DA board so I grabbed it will be able to make some comparisons when it turns up. I don't expect a huge difference but I dident expect such a difference on the AD side. Will know soon ?

I don't know if I've been clear enough on RGO, the Tascam UH-7000 is one of my favorite pieces of gear at any price point, I highly recommend if for anyone looking for clean conversion, preamps, or monitoring.

I have one to use with my mac mini for my home pc theater streaming netflix & itunes. At the studio I use apogee da16x, dangerous monitor st with the dac option. It's more on the 'light sounding, sterile' type for me.

Was doing some vocal take's with svart's box last night. It is better than the Tascam but not the huge difference the acoustic guitar showed. I was stunned at how much the svart box improved the guitar, vocal's are great but quite similar. Will post some files in the next couple of days.
