Here are a couple links to the new Highland Dynamics BG-2 compressor. Everyone that puts their hands on one ends up buying it pretty quickly if they are in the market for a modern take on the RCA BA6A and Altec/RS-124 style compression. Mine will be here at the end of this week according to Bryce Gonzalas, who I have asked to join us here on Real Gear. I know that Dave Cobb and Ryan Hewitt both have purchased them along with my bud and fellow acoustic guitarist/grasser/producer/label owner, Stephen Mougin, here in Nashville. I think I have made the same wise decision in following suit. I will offer up my place to anyone who wants to hear it in person while in town for the Wiz-bang-event on Oct 4th as well. Those in Nashville know you can stop by here and hear it with just a phone call.

Yeah - this thing sounded fantastic when we were over last time. Haven't had a chance to check the videos out yet but would love to hear this on a vocal.

Well, you are welcome to take it for a bit or bring a vocal over, either way, John. You do have to post it here for everyone though!

HOLY SPITBALLS!! What a sound! Almost NO sound... perfect pure leveling on vocals. But you can color it up if you want to. And what it does on bass is extraordinary.
So, Randy, are you equipped to do similar videos for the effect on mandolin, flat pick and fiddle?
Right now I'm not thinking about "if" but "how many".

I didn't do those videos. I was just spreading the word on a good product and justifying my own spending...
I have filmed some RTZ PEQ 1549 videos recently and can certainly run some acoustic instruments through the BG-2 when it gets here. Send me files and I will make it happen for you. I usually, if not always track with a bit of eq and compression, so it wouldn't be pure files to work with on my end.

I usually, if not always track with a bit of eq and compression, so it wouldn't be pure files to work with on my end. Same! Compression for me is a tonality tool as well as a leveling tool for tracking. I like to put sounds to disk that are as close to finished as possible. I don't subscribe to the "leave everything to the mix" or "fix it in the mix" mentalities.

I don't know if I even want to know what it sounds like...can't really afford it. Might be interesting to hear it compared to the Sta.

Ha. Shannon dialed it in a little bit more - probably gonna track some vocals tonight and tomorrow. Doubt it's gonna get sold though lol.

Mine just showed up right when I was gearing up to sing a bunch of high harmony! Perfect timing! Impeccably packaged and a total pro build. Send me files if you want to hear something you've recorded through it.
