So I am aware of a fairly large studio going out of business and I have a list of equipment that is all for sale. I am putting together an offer for a bulk purchase which will include mostly workhorse mics (414s, 451, 441s, 421s, SM7Bs, SM57 & 58s). He does have a Bricasti M7 verb, a Tube Teck CL 1B, Manley VariMu, a few 1176s and an Inward Connections MIX 690 (16ch summing mixer) and I wish I could buy them all.
My question is how much discount from new on the mics and cables is fair to offer. The market prices on his list are all over the place....some close to the as new and others a bit less. Everything is in good condition so make that assumption in your answers. I just want to put together a list of the items I want with a number I will pay and be done with it....but I don't want to insult him OR overpay.
Thanks a lot for any feedback.

John, just off the top of my head, if your buying ALL of it, i would take low market value, and knock an additional 5% off, and sell the point, "i'll take the stuff, and the nickel and dime hassle off your hands, and you'll have a big chunk of $ in your pocket"
Just a quick opinion good luck, sounds like fun T

I am taking a bunch of what remains of his mic locker off of his hands but he is in the very early stages of selling his stuff. All the heavy stuff is gone...Ampex decks and two consoles etc, he has an entire studio filled with misc stuff to move. He has had a few "friends of friends" like me through that bought some stuff but he has a long way to go. (I did pick up a c12 VR for a really great price). I think your point is still valid because it will save him some time and hassle...who wants to list a bunch of sub 1k mics on Ebay right? Still wondering how much discount from new price is typical for used mics? How much would you pay for a used SM57 or AKG 414 XLII for example?

I usually watch Ebay auctions and get a feel for what people will pay for used gear. That's about how much you should expect to pay because the seller will likely do the same thing..

Keep in mind that ebay takes 10% from the seller and paypal 3% or so. That should be another negotiating tactic when going after this stuff with cash.
