Sounds Great, really nice tune and performance.
So with the individual tracks are those are different takes with and without the WA76 in the recording chain as you played them (Before the DAW)? ..or did you print them with and W/O from already laid tracks?
I'm trying to be as hypersensitive I can to the need to level-match, which was OK with most, but not really fair at all with the Bass.

You're totally right m57. I used the same tracks, which were recorded simultaneously with the WA76 and without. The bass was the only problem. It was done (beautifully) by Anton Evans, (Henge) from Village Works studios in Canada. He did the track first, and then later on when I decided to do the video, I realized I needed a "without" bass track. He recorded a short piece later, with exactly the same instrument and signal path, but without his WA76 this time. Unfortunately, the difference in playing from one day to the next is obvious. I did my best, and hope t doesn't become a big nit to pick when the youtubve comments come rolling in. Other than that, I think the level matching went well.
The last video I did got more than 10,000 views, and that's a lot of eyes to answer to ;-)

I thought it was really excellent Martin.
These are an enormous amount of work ( i know, I have done them).
People, don't realise how much effort this stuff takes, and I thought it showed the WA76 well at what it is.
Great song too, I have heard it before a while back, it sounds really great now.
cheers

Good job Martin and very good song, well played and produced.
This shows the versatility of the WA76 and the final mix really shines !
Personally, I thought my advice more parsley:)!

I've been seriously considering whether to get a Warm WA76 or a UAD Satellite or a Softube Console 1. I like the idea of tracking into the box so that it sits well in the mix rather than the other way around and your video and song demonstrate this very well. Nice tune BTW. The issue is the preamp. If you don't mind me asking, what preamp were you using? I have an Apogee Quartet which is an excellent interface but because the WA76 is a line level unit it has been recommended that I use a dedicated preamp before the WA76 then into my Apogee. Is this the line you were using?

A bit OT, so I have to apologize for hijacking in advance, but am I the only one that thinks the thing looks horrendous? I'd only consider buying one if I could figure out how to get rid of that hideously tacky logo. That creamsicle-neon orange makes me want to gag (not literally).

Very nicely done, Martin.
I would love to hear any other mixes you did on the uncompressed tracks, such as the WA76 on the 2 buss.

Thanks, kcatthedog. I pretty much get that through the A/B that Martin showed in the vid. I'm guessing it was compressed on individual tracks and again on the mix, although the tracks were recorded without the WA76. I was wondering if he experimented with other mixes.

A couple of thoughts. 1. Your voice is pure americana. Love it. It borders on the "about to fall apart at any moment" with a compelling tone and emotive quality. 2. The WA76 adds a beautiful yet almost transparent weight to almost every source. 3. Bryce is the man!! warmaudio

One of the best songwriters I've known as well. A true artist.

Maybe those of us with design/art skills in our midst could submit new logo designs to Bryce for his consideration. Could be something good come out of that. You up for that, warmaudio?

Thanks so much, I love youse guys!
As for the logo, please don't let that stop you from getting the WA76, A simple piece of black tape fixes that in a minute, or if you must, tape around it, carefully spray a pinch Rustoleum semi-gloss black, which is the most pro DIY finisher I've ever seen, and your good to go.
I don't mind the logo, but can understand why some hate it. Bryce is smart, he's always open to suggestions.
B1, it's complicated enough getting all those tracks done twice, with and without the WA76, keeping track of it all, and then level matching, so I didn't save any alternate mixes. I believe in the video, the "mix with and mix without" parts have no 2 bus processing, but of course, the final mix does, but that's in the box. I'd need two 76's to use it on the 2 bus. These days I've gone minimal in the 2, use Slate's VBC, and UAD's ATR-102, and a little of Apple's compression, which are outstanding by the way. Sometimes I don't use the Slate VBC, just tape, com press, and print.
Ward, thanks for the supportive comments. I so appreciate you finding my vocal "Americana". I have some connections in that genre, and plan to solicit my songs soon, but was concerned I was too folk rock to be considered "true Americana". I have have some Americana style songs, but many Alt-Country, and Folk-Rock style too, along the lines of The Byrds, Ryan Adams, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Tom Petty, and I sincerely hope they fit in. I am trying to take the genre to new places, so I hope I find those with the ears to hear. There's a certain snob element to those people in powerful positions to help a new Americana artist.

ehh, almost guarantee Bryce won't be up for changing the name or logo, he's been working on the branding for a few years now, the good news is that good equipment, no matter how ugly it is...., is desired. If you're interested in changing the look, you could have at this program for a night or 2 and come up with whatever you want, including a fakemeout Urie replica front panel. www.frontpanelexpress.com/agreed, Martin's voice is a very, very cool instrument btw 8)

Thank you Tony, henge. Your support is going a long way toward helping me gain more confidence. Our own voices rarely sound good to us.
* 2002digging, I forgot to answer your question, I used the Warm Audio Tone Beast, on the X18 side, but with one minor difference, I installed the John Hardy 990 opamp on that side. It just plugs in with a little fidgeting. Recently I've gotten the Dizengoff D4, and it's killer, so now I can choose preamps depending on the match to the source.

The Dizengoff D4 looks very interesting. I have an Apogee Quartet and obviously need someting to drive the WA76 and the D4 looks nice. Is it too coloured and/or is it also capable of a clean signal? I wont have the funds for anything more than one preamp so I want to maximise the potential of the one I eventually choose.
