So I won a svt for 400ish. No cabinet, just the head internals.
When powered it would just pop and the fault lights would blink.
I disassembled it, resoldered all connections, and tried again.. Still dead. One of the bias lights wouldn't light.
I traced through and found one resistor open, but not burned, in the bias circuit. I traced this back to the tube it biased and found the tube shorted.
Replaced the resistor and the tube and it works!
Apparently this is a common problem with the svt.

Great job. My bass player used one with the slant 8x10 cab for a few years. I ended up using GE 6550 power tubes, the most reliable. I would take a DVM to gigs as it always needed a bias trim when we moved it. I got tired of that and gave him a Sunn colosium head to use, no maintanence required.
I hurt my back moving that rig a couple of times.

I have a svt on loan from a friend for a session in the studio and I love the rock and roll attitude it has.
When I found this one, I knew I had to get it before the loaner gets taken back.
Since it's a studio piece, I'm not terribly concerned about weight.

I just scored 6 matched winged C svetlana 6550's for $50! It was an "as is, untested" auction, as the guy bought them with that matched claim, but never tried them out himself, so i just made the offer and he took it, they work perfectly and sound great, both side bias at about the same point on the screw turns, it's a 90's SVT Classic, it has the green and red biasing led's, makes it a snap to get it straight.

Classic. One of the boards says 2010 on it, so I assume it's a newer version. It also seems to have all the recent eco changes, so I'm pretty sure it's only a few years old.

So I built a box for it over the weekend and covered it with white tolex. I'll have some pics maybe tonight.
I played it all weekend, sounds killer and sounds just like the other one, so I think it's good to go.
