It's great to hear a snare drum sound like it actually does. That's become a rare event.

In a time of pseudo talent bs, wasn't it great to see a crowd of people rockin a song live that they all love. I am not a FF fanboy or anything but that was truly what music is all about for me, very movin and real ! oh if dave needs somebody to house sit a spare old neve board while he goes to do the full la dolca vita; ok I'll man up and step up

Funny thing is, they already have a show scheduled in Bologna like an hour away from this place. Maybe they'll do something smaller on the day off before the Bologna show.
edit - not to take away from the awesomeness of the video, especially the giant grid of drummers.

Disclaimer: I like the Foo Fighters and think this video was awesome.
I'm calling bs on the whole thing though. This wasn't just a group of Italians getting together and playing some Foo Fighters. This was a serious production. Platform and lights for the conductor. Stages for the drum sets. Sync'd playing. Must have been some group lessons and rehearsal. Mics and stuff. Pro video work and mixing. This isn't just some group of people having a good time organically. Somebody financed this thing for a reason. Maybe this Italian guy had the idea, emailed the Foo Fighters, and they sent a crew out to make it happen and document it for publicity (not that they need more exposure though)? I just can't get behind the idea that this was an organic thing to get the band to come to their city.

I don't think it was the foo's, these people are fans and someone had a lot of money to put toward it, looks like they had great fun for sure.

I just can't get behind the idea that this was an organic thing to get the band to come to their city. In his speech, the organizer said they all came from far and wide at their own expenses, and that he spent a whole year working to make this happen. You have to think the word might have got out about it during that time, so maybe it was not a total surprise. I thought it was kind of a bum counterpoint how subdued Dave Grohl's reaction video was, like he was sort of put on the spot. But I'm more interested in what they were able to do in front of the mics and cameras than how genuine their motives were or what happened behind the scenes. I've never seen that many rock musicians play together before, nothing even close, and they nailed it! The production is sort of the whole point, that's what makes this thing good. It's not just some sloppy jam. Any dumbass could have done something like that. I admire the work that went into this event, I'll probably watch it several times. Personally, professionalism is more impressive to me than b-grade production. I don't think a casual version of this sort of thing would be nearly as appealing or viral. I think production value has become critical to even DIY groups and individuals. That's how you get popular in this new internet age. People are catching on. You just don't necessarily need a big budget or commercial support the way you used to. Viewers still expect quality in DIY media. Just like YouTube sensations, I think people recording music at home and trying to share it will understand that. The struggle is real, haha.

Why didn't they just record an acoustic guitar to a click track, and then overdub everyone one at a time? Where's the auto tune? I didn't see a Kemper or Pod anywere. Some HAS to run beat detective over this stuff!!! Anyone know what converter and sample rate were used? 8) damn, that was pure joy to watch. thanks for posting cheers Wiz

There's definitely a "Rockin1000" billboard near my house that went up two days ago, sponsored by our local rock radio station. Now, whether they're just jumping on the bandwagon, or they contributed to the crowdfunding campaign, who knows. But these things are done to generate publicity (and $). I'm guessing that "Rockin1000" does other songs and becomes a thing.

Checked out the 'diary' and don't doubt that it's for real, but it sure is one over-the-top vision/project - part homage/part theater, part cool/part strange product of current technology and the crowd-sourcing cultural phenomenon. Part of me totally understands how it could happen and another still doesn't know what to make of it. Consider the plight of the poor alienpologist who has to submit back to his home planet a detailed report on the strange creatures that inhabit Sol3.
