You're joking, but my high-school buddy's eccentric uncle insisted on wearing a helmet whenever he drove. It's not that bad of an idea.. I don't think his teenage daughters were very fond of it.

I'm in the Northeast and I was amazed that people in Tennessee actually obey 1 or 2 rules of the road. Florida is still one of the best driving experiences outside of France. UK and Ireland are just as crazy as the rest of us.

"One of the best driving experiences", Florida has highways with intersections going right across them(no over/under passes), and lots of old drivers! Florida ranks as 4th worst in the U.S. on a list I found, Here's a link kmle1079.cbslocal.com/2011/11/09/here-are-all-50-states-ranked-from-best-drivers-to-worst-drivers/

Although, with any article that creates its own metrics and criteria, one wonders if the Ticketing, Drunk, and Careless rankings may be more an indication of how aggressive law enforcement is more than anything else. I live in Massachusetts, but I drive a fair amount in Rhode Island (#1 "Safest"), and let me tell you, I'd rather drive in MA. Yes the drivers in MA. are aggressive, but they are predictable. I can usually predict when I'm going to get cut off. RI. drivers by by contrast seem clueless. I feel like I have no idea what will happen next. I'm convinced many don't even know where the blinker switches are, and for a certain percentage that do, they get it backwards. (Most of my friends live in RI - Go figure!) BTW, I agree about Florida, older drivers, and especially the highway experience you describe. That's a case where it may be more a function of the infrastructure than the drivers.

That's a case where it may be more a function of the infrastructure than the drivers. my cousin Lee got both his legs broken and a steering wheel in the face when he was driving down a freeway somewhere near Boca Raton Florida in the 90's, a VERY senior man in his late 80's pulled out to cross the freeway, at exactly the wrong moment, when he was right on top of him at freeway speeds, the older fella was fine after the impact, my cousin not so much... I think the swampy nature of florida earth keeps them from making over and underpasses as easily/often as us with hardpack soil?.? another fun fact, my Mother and Sister live in Bensalem Pa, they live about a 1/2 mile from the deadliest intersection in the USA called "Knights RD/Street RD", upon my many visits, i've been across it, down it, up it many times, I remember always thinking to myself... "man!... this intersection is gonna kill someone!", then my jaw dropped as I read this in TIME magazine last year, I immediately called memom, needless to say, her and my Sister were well aware of the article, and not surprised... time.com/this-is-americas-deadliest-intersection/

Sometimes it gets wild in Mexico City and Guadalajara. Bus drivers usually are talking on the cellphone, and think are driving a VW Beetle. There have been quite a number of accidents because of them. Getting a licence here is pretty easy and cheap. Most people don't care about it, it's easier for them to bribe a cop...go figure. Most of the time is fun and peaceful driving, is just matter to stay sharp.
BUT, in China things get out of control. The first time we toured there, it was a shocking experience, we thought we would die in a car crash. It seems there are no driving rules at all. Just look at this
