I was tired of the Mix Window in Cubase 8. So, I thought I'd mix for awhile in Cubase 6 and see if I liked that better. I started having problems with Windows in Cubase 6. So, I reopened the project in Cubase 8. Windows/Cubase didn't like that either, with the program shutting down constantly.
I contacted customer support. I was told that a Cubase 8 project shouldn't be able to be opened in 6, even though mine did. So, if you're thinking about doing what I did, don't.
Still awaiting what they suggest I do to remedy the problem.

Good to know since I was about to upgrade from 6 to 8.... however, according to Steinberg's compatibility charts, it should be fine. The table below helps you to check which applications are able to open projects of another. The left column is your used application while the top most row determines from which version your project file comes from:

Bummer, the windows handling is by far my favorite new feature of Cubase Pro 8. I was just upgrading from 7.5 though so I guess that's a little more of a smooth upgrade. Hope you can get it worked out.

I have bounced back and forth with 6 when learning 7 and 7 when learning 8 with zero problems.

Thanks mdmitch2. I contacted Jeff at Steinberg support with the chart. We'll see what he has to say.
