Not only did he create the E9 and C6 tunings used today for steel guitar, but he could play the strings off of it. Check this vid out and realize how easily he could outplay even the hottest young guns in Nashville. The man knew how to play through the changes. His solo starts around 3:30. It is a monumental loss for steel guitar and country music. R

He was an artist as well as an artisan. I am blessed to own one of his guitars. It gives me great pleasure. His time on earth was well spent. Thank you, sir. RIP
