I get tons of messages on all the forums I've been to over the years. they frequently ask for me to help them fix things or want information or whatever. It's usually something that I don't know anything about but I'll get 2-3 messages from them almost demanding my attention. I've stopped replying long ago to those types of messages, usually because they'll badger me with more and more questions yet won't take any advice I give. they'll just expect me to help them fix whatever it is over email for free, like I even know what their problem is.
Common questions are like
Them: "Hey, I want to change out some opamps in my mixer. Which ones should I get?"
Me: "Which ones do you currently have in your mixer?"
Them: "I dunno"
Me: "Well, do you have schematics or anything?"
Them: "No, can you send them to me?"
Me: "I don't even know what mixer you have"
Them: "I wrote it in the thread"
Me: "I haven't been to that forum in YEARS. I also don't know what thread you are talking about"
Them: "Can you go read it and help me, please?"
Me: "I'm sorry, I just don't have time to do that. Can you at least tell me why you want to change the opamps?"
Them: "Because they suck!"
Me: "Which opamps are they?"
Them: "I dunno"
Me: "How do you know they suck, then?"
Them: "Because I was reading on the forum and someone said they suck"
Me: "have you done any decoupling or power supply modifications to make sure that your mixer would support new opamps?"
them: "De-what? I don't know any of that stuff, that's why I'm asking you!"
Me: "..... So you don't know what opamps you are using and you don't know anything about electronics, you don't have the schematics but you want me to suggest how to modify your mixer?"
Them: "yes, can you tell me exactly what I need to do and what to buy?"
Me: "can you solder?"
them: "no, I don't know any of that stuff"
And I just don't reply anymore.
