I believe Jon Ericsson designed the reddi and Pacifica (I could be mixing some of that up) and now is doing the Tonecraft.

Fans was really impressively. Little more expensive than I can afford right now for a di though. It if you want something that sounds great - it definitely fits the bill. That Tonecraft Di looks fantastic too. Only for the serious though at $1200 What does that mean? Is "Fans" a type of DI? I couldn't get anywhere with google. Dan's, I would assume.

I have D4 also and absolutely love it! I'm currently enjoying the DI on the Heritage DMA73, but thinking of getting an alternative. Could you please describe the differences in sound between the D4 DI and Dan's DI?

I was really happy with the Bo Hansen DI'S I just built. I sat down to test it out and just kept playing. With it before the VP28 was very nice, gave a nice warm aggressive tone! In contrast my Type 85 was more sparkly/crispy, less inspiring, and less amp like. I play a '72 Ampeg V4-B with an active Yamaha Tr-4b. I had an SVT and a Yamaha TRB-6P back in the day, awesome tone.

Type 85 can handle a load though, so you could put it after the V4 and grab some of that tube sound!

Danny Miranda, who's played bass with BOC, Queen (LV show and live tour with Paul Rogers) and currently Meatloaf, gets a great sound from the Sansamp pedal.

The Fusion 550's features really stand out.

I tried it a bunch of times with my rig and it changes the load impedance to much and causes distortion, even with changing the output load switch.

mobeach - looks like you're getting a lot of pricey suggestions! I agree with Eric - Country Type 85. What do you have for preamps. Type 85 through a nice preamp is great........ True, but still a little 'middly' - a run a Country FET85 through a drawer 1960 all the time, but on the other channel I mic a great sounding amp and cabinet with a U47fet and combine the two. The U47fet give me tons to low and highs and the countryman brings up the middle as needed. But I still can't wait to get the new Bass pre finished off with my designing colleague! And it WILL be less than $1200, Johnkenn

Could you please describe the differences in sound between the D4 DI and Dan's DI? Zod is DEEP with just enough punch...well balanced...modern with Tube presence. D4 is smooth and vintage sounding with a nice top and tube glow. I think Dan created a winner. Your not going to crunch up the ZOD like you can the D4 but I think after you hear it you will like it exactly like it is and if you want more color...run it through your favorite color pre or use the thru to split the signal into whatever you want. How I use it: Fender P-Bass/ZOD/LA2A (no compression, only make-up gain)/converter and the DI Thru to an Ampeg Micro VR/2X10 cab/MK47/CAPI VP28 (hows that for color and air)/converter...pure attitudes.

P-Bass/J-Bass/G&L ASAT>Dan's DI>Heritage 2264jr>Apogee Symphony. Damn good. Fat, with plenty of gain, running it at around 12-oclock high. Next, gonna try the thru with an amp of some sort, maybe a B15 or similar, into the Two Notes Studio load box. Silent recording in the Midnight Hour: it's a thing of beauty.

I know this is more than you want to spend, but I love the A-Design REDDI Tube DI for Bass, Guitar, & Pedal Steel. Personally, I wouldn't use another Tube DI, that I know of at this point. Great for DI recording or dual DI + Mic-ed Amp with the thru jack. I was with Dan in Nashville when he demoed the Zod to a songwriter buddy of mine who owned the REDDI. The dude played a bit thru the REDDI and then plug into Dan's Zod. In no more then 10 seconds, he told Dan to take the REDDI and sell it for whatever he could get cuz he was keeping the Zod. Sometimes shootouts are close and you need to strain a bit to hear things. This was not like that.

I guess just a few units in existence? Where's Dan's description of it; anyone?
