I personally had a blast at Namm 2015 and got to meet some cool new people. So, Pepper Denny (Pepper's Pro Shop) and I are hosting a listening party to try out all of this new gear on Tuesday night at 7PM here(Slack Key). All RGO folks that can make it are certainly invited! Acme, Locomotive Audio,Highland Dynamics, Great River, Fredenstein, RTZ, Ingram Engineering,Miktek, Cloud, Mojave,Royer, BAE and Retro will all be here to try. There are others and I am probably forgetting some right now. All RGO folks are welcome if you can make it!

8 hours for me, ugh, want to be there badly! If it was a Saturday I would for sure be there! I am actually demoing both Miktek CV3 and a CV4 in my little studio right now.

It's a 3.5 hour flight and United doesn't leave for another 5 hours.... I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. But this is a stellar invitation to our little community! Thank you so much, Mr. Kohrs!!

I stopped by for a little bit. Got to play with a couple of hardware units on bass. There was the new Highland Dynamics BG-2 - based off an RS124 (of Beatles fame) front end with a 6V6 output like a Gates or RCA. It was reeeeallly nice. Has a couple of tone shaping switches - 600 and 150 ohm swtch...600 seemed to take some of the bottom out on the bass. Also a "British" and American" feedback switch. The American was boomier, the British seems to have more control across the freq spectrum. All of the switches were really usable. It didn't have super quick attack times, but that's not what it's for. Really nice.
There was a Fredenstein 660, but I couldn't figure it out...
an Acme Opticom Opto compressor ala LA2A that I dug - it had a push pull input selector that was -15db when pulled out...then it had three attack/release times
The Locomotive seemed to be more colored with a little more classic "sound of compression" working to it. I could hear it on OH's and room.
Again, the Tubetech CL1B was smooth as silk and the Retro Doublewide sounded pretty comparable to the bigger units.

The Highland Dynamics was a real winner for me. It has an American BA-6A sound and then a switch to British mode more like an EMI or modded Altec sound. I really love the American side, super slow release and fast attack and impedance at 150. It hugs a bass at -10 and welds it there just georgeously. Similar setting with a switch of the impedance to 600 and vocals faired very well also. Lots of folks liking the Loco 14-B, too. I wanted it to be less intrusive for my taste. I wish the release was able to go slower and the attack not so grabby. I know there are those of you on here that like that kind of compression and this box is tailor-made for you. Not sure if the Acme Opticon is working correctly or not. It sounds like a distortion box to me the way that it is right now. The Fredenstein 660's are very nice and I like them a great deal. I was able to check them out a few months back and got very comfortable using them on my drum buss. The Retro Doublwide is a great utility comp and works on a lot of different sources. I think people over use its compression characteristics and decide they don't like the sound of it. If used correctly, it smooths without load up and does an amazing job on female vocals especially. Nothing better at tube compression in 500 series that I have heard. The Joe Meek VC1Q is a sleeper and sounds amazing. Lots of options there. Finally, the Collins 26-J. I use this comp a lot and know it very well. The Highland Dynamics was the only (new gear) comp to hang with the richness and depth of the Collins IMO. I will post some pics later after I wipe away my tears from unracking and boxing these wonderful pieces of gear back up for Pepper to sell.

Both slower attack and release would be welcome options for me. When I grabbed this, I had planned on using it behind an 1176, but found this to be a better first comp with something slower behind it. Really nice compressor, but different from what I expected.

I know it's rather early to ask this, but will there be another Party Time in the not so distant future? If I could've got a flight in time I would've been there, it was rather last minute. I can't wait to see the pics! Thanks Randge. Like someone else said around here, Nashville guys have all the fun! Thanks for the insight on the gear.
