Today my cp5 box arrived and tonight I built the first preamp in around 2 hours. yep i'm slow.
should be able to give them a spin on Saturday as I'm booked to do an EP with a band. I've pencilled the CP5 in for drum room mics. The band is talking overdubbing an acoustic for one song and if that happens i'll shootout the CP5 against the Syteks.
time will tell. first CP5 didn't blow up when I powered it up.
Really interested in how they sound against the Syteks .

They are clean and quiet, prob not as open as I would like. If the source sounds good then they are fine but there is no help.
I compared to the sytek tonight. I left my hard drive at home so need to wait till next weekend now to upload files.
I used an sm57 pair. Comparing them makes the sytek seem coloured. The cp5 is pretty much flat, so the sytek sounds brighter with more body in the mids.
The sytek sounded bigger.

I'm thinking its now the Sytek but I wanna hear the difference myself .

the 4 files are not levelled matched 24/44.1 wave files.
there are 2 different guitars. a 70's grecco sg and an ampeg les paul modified with p90's. all sm57 mics.
I setup the les paul with 57/sytek first just off centre and placed a 57/cp5 beside it. hence the cp5 is darker. I felt this was a little unfair so doubled the guitar part with the grecco but this time set the 57/cp5 first then put the 57/sytek beside it.
all up the sytek is brighter and has more mids.

here is the cp5 on snare from a session on the weekend. first file is the entire kit. second file is the solo snare. glyn johns setup. pm860 pair into lola on overheads; beta 52a into vocoloco on kick; snare mic into cp5.
this is raw, I haven't edited out the miss hit at the end.

Snare sounds good ! Its very 70's . The CP5 sounds very clear and for $150 its nice . I'd leave that hit at the end for sure , don't edit it out . It adds engery/excitement to the climax at the end .
I see you have asteroids on the wall . I used to own Asteroids Deluxe the actual arcade game . I've had many arcade games over the years but recently sold them all off .

I guess it is 70's sounding. the snare had a muffler ring on it. I found a nice spot in the room for the snare and setup the kit there. I tried it without the muffler ring but there were to many overtones so I put it back on and recorded it that way. don't know to much about the kit. it was what was there. pearl export lacquered shells with iss mounts.
the asteroids were my music partners idea. he is a big vintage game fan. there are two pin balls machines in the live room and a table arcade game. lots of fun. doctor who and twighlight zone.
