As far as I can tell they do nothing more than add DSP to whatever sound is in the environment.
(It's like a cream-filled cookie - the chain is mic on the outside --> remotely controlled DSP in the middle --> speaker on the inside)
I'm pretty sure there is no actual transmission of sound from a remote source. I can't think of any functional uses for the studio - really only limited and artificial/gimmicky uses. E.g. go to the beach and listen to the waves crashing on the shore with a flange, or delay, etc.. The one useful function that I would imagine it should be very capable of is noise cancelation - funny how they don't tout that. Maybe they feel that particular ability would expose its paradigm for functionality and hence its limitations.
