Hello guys! This is my first post. I thought I could join in, because I'm a big fan of this particular Beatles album and especially of Paul and John's vocal sound on it. I thought someone could tell me more about their the vocal chain and the added effects. As far I know Paul's voc. chain was an U47 and a V76. I don't know what mic and pre was applied on John's vocal tracks. Does anybody know what units the voices were compressed with? Besides, plate reverb, slap back echo were there other effects included? I think there is a slight chorus/flange effect going on on Paul's vocals. What do you guys know about it? Is it tape flutter perhaps?
Any comments on this matter are highly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Welcome, JCZ! Could've been a U48 too...The biggest thing is hearing the talent...Wouldn't have really mattered what they were singing through...but man, how beautiful those mics and pres sound...

Yes, the voices together are astonishing.
It's almost unfair, hearing these isolated, as it was their work of art, not meant to be dissected, and the whole was much more than the sum of its parts. But, them being who they were, it's human nature to analyze. What I like the most is that it highlights just how talented they were. Most of today's popular artists pale in comparison.
What's also amazing is how incredibly special their voices were. There's so much meaning between the lines, and such indescribable compatibility, It brings to mind the Thelonius Monk quote, "A genius is the one most like himself."

Hi John! Thanks a lot for welcoming me! Thanks also for posting the video. Their vocal work is unbeatable. And yes, their talent was unique. To me the four of them were fantastic together, a winning team. I guess I'll find more equipment & recording info ordering this book @ www.recordingthebeatles.com. It's available again. Cheers!
