I've had this issue before and it sucks......I use a hardware insert in Logic and it works for maybe 30 seconds then digital crackling, demon scream noises and finally total audio dropout. The last time I tried everything including uninstalling/reinstalling/updating RME drivers and firmware (Fireface UC), going back to Yosemite 10.1.1 and ultimately reinstalling Logic X to it's initial form. Reinstalling Logic X seemed to do the trick.
Now, it's happening all over again with the EXACT SAME SETUP! Yeah, I'm yelling. What changed? I moved from New Hampshire to Vermont last week.
I've gotten one step further in the problem solving - if I uncheck "enable core audio" in Audio Preferences then enable it again the track will play through the hardware I/O as normal but eventually craps out again. Anyone have any suggestions with this bit of troubleshooting? I can uninstall/reinstall Logic X again but would rather find an easier more explainable fix first.
Thanks!

I had a UCX and logic pro x running together for years, and never experienced that.
Only suggestion is basic trouble shooting stuff...
New project, no 3rd party plug ins, see how you go...
Also, if you have applecare, don't be afraid to call in, I have spoken to Logic Developers a couple of times doing that.
cheers

Yosemite? If so there are problems.... Also problems with the AVID core audio drivers. Luckily HDX doesn't need to use them, but any 3rd party software like iTunes, Snapper, Toast, etc DOES, and they are ALL broken. I'm sick and tired of APPLE breaking stuff with EVERY update. As much as I loath PC's (no offense to you PC users), this round of hardware / software upgrades....(for me it was a new HDX system, latest tower upgraded to trashcan specs, and yosemite have been UBER expensive and a software PITA! Mostly thanks to apple, and the rest thanks to AVID 3rd party dev's. Next time around I will SERIOUSLY consider a PC. Constant Apple updates, and broken OS's are making DAW life in Apple-land a nightmare. My iPhone really loves it though..... <sigh>

if you'v got logic X, chances are you've also got Logic 9. did you have this problem with Logic 9? NoFilterChuck - No, I didn't use Logic 9. I'm a fairly recent Pro Tools defector (last 6 mos. or so) and don't have Logic 9 installed here. It's a strange problem, I asked around the RME and Logic forums and, while people were very helpful, I never found the answer. wiz - Thanks Peter, I may take you up on your offer if I can't figure this out. drbill - My system was very stable when I used Pro Tools 10, no problems like this at all. I jumped ship because of Avid's new policies, etc. I've had a very smooth transition to Logic and I really enjoy working in it now. This hardware I/O problem is very frustrating but I don't hear about anyone with the same problem so it seems to be unique to my setup.
