Here's my responses from the Facebook post...
You've got to be kidding me. These bars are making money hand over fist. All they had to do was pay a minimal license to the PRO's. It's STANDARD business practice. BMI tried to contact them over 40 times to get this resolved. So - just how does this bar get people to come there? By hiring a band or playing music. So they are using MY creation to make money their establishment. You think people would come to a bar with absolutely no music? You ever been in one with zero music? Why do people think they are entitled to what I "make/produce" for free? I love Cap'n Crunch, but I can't just walk into the grocery store and steal it off the shelf...
Are barstools free? Advertisements? How about plumbers when the bathrooms don't work? Do you pay waitresses and bar backs? I would venture to say NONE of those sell more beer than a band playing songs.

I was just reading that, some of those guys are career cover band musicians so they're biased, and they're also the same ones that complained the bars are making all the money. Lyons is also in a cover band but he sees the big picture, the rest only care about dollar signs.

"They're basically like the Mafia, to come in and strong arm you...."
I'd love to see what would happen to this guy if he didn't pay his liquor distributor.

Yeah - that Dan Lyons guy started off seemingly in support, but kind've devolved into him just wanting to be right about everything. I'm bailing out.

I always thought the problem boiled down to this: On the radio and TV music is free to ME! There for all music is Free to ME!!! Also there is the misconception that everybody in the music biz is rich so there is this Robinhood complex! I'm not sure how we change that.
