I just watched "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck". It was like watching a very well made horror film. Curious to hear other people's reactions.

I just haven't had he desire to see it...any good? I thought it was good in the sense that, since the executive producer is his daughter, it really gives you access into his life with interviews with his mother, father, sister, stepfather, his first girlfriend in Aberdeen, presumably his best friend bassist Novelesic and his wife Courtney Love. So, you get a look at who he was from their perspective. They also intersperse a lot of his journal writing, demo recordings, home videos, recorded thoughts, drawings and interviews while telling the story. Some of the archival video is grainy, but otherwise it is very well directed imo, with lots of sound and visual effects to compliment the story. It is thought provoking about broken homes, drug use (obviously), disaffected youth (why was he so alienated and why did so many people relate to his music/lyrics?), fame etc. But make no mistake, this is a very sad story. So, I could see why people would pass on watching it. I'm glad I watched it, but won't again.

I think the absence of both drummer Grohl and best friend/Earth guitarist Dylan Carson speaks volumes. We don't get the sense of his time in Olympia, really, or the early K records Nirvana or many other things. Not to mention this "friend" filming them as they get doped up and Courtney flashes her tits basically stays anonymous.
It's a really interesting and even artistically framed documentary, but there's a sense it's more of a gesture for Nirvana fans than a document of Kurt's time in music and how the scene surrounding him reflected in his music and vica versa. I enjoyed it on some levels, and on many levels it made me want for more.

I just watched "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck". It was like watching a very well made horror film. Curious to hear other people's reactions. Well, he was the epitome of 'anti-hero' who became hero to a generation of whiny prozac and lithium addicted kids who didn't want to be pretty. Or something like that.
