Don't know if this was mentioned here already, but here goes anyway. Not sure if we in Europe can make use if this yet, but for US-based musicians, it might be an interesting alternative to Ebay. Here's the story: Reverb storyHere's the site. REVERB

Anyone see any specific ways to thwart scammers on there? I keep having issues with scammers on ebay, notably the "chargeback fraud" scam where someone hacks another account, buys something and then later initiates a chargeback on the stolen credit card they used. Paypal and Ebay do absolutely nothing to stop this and put the burden of proof on the seller while using the excuse that they are just following credit card laws which allow the credit card company full control over the process.

Hi Svart, this is what i've done for EVERY internet transaction involving ebay, paypal and ALL others, i figure it should work here also. I went and got a prepaid visa card, I transfer just enough money to this card to pay for what ever it is that i'm currently `buying. If it's a large sum of $, and i trust the company, i'll usually do a bank transfer. It still doesn't make you immune to problems with paypal, they are actually a pretty greedy organization, who likes to hold on to your $ as long as they can, it takes them forever to resolve problems. One time their system glitched, and double charged me $1,800.00($3,600,00) in .5 seconds(records showed), when i looked for a phone # to call, they gave me the number to the gear provider(unbeknown to me), after flipping the fuck out on the poor guys answering machine, i realized it wasn't them(i'm such a jackass)?? It took 2 long weeks to get it resolved with those @#@%'s! That cemented my current practices in stone, and my opinion of paypal. Unfortunately they are a necessary evilbay. good luck T

It took 2 long weeks to get it resolved with those @#@%'s! That cemented my current practices in stone, and my opinion of paypal. Unfortunately they are a necessary evilbay. good luck T That may work fine as a buyer, but as a seller, you can't do that, and I was speaking of selling only. There has to be a verified bank account associated with the paypal account. As a seller on ebay, you have the burden of proof that your merchandise is "exactly as described" although they don't really elaborate on that definition and it seems to be completely left up to someone else's interpretation. You also have to prove that you shipped the items if someone were to say that they never received them, so ALWAYS get tracking, and if the price is high, ALSO get signature confirmation. Of course, the merchandise description proof is almost impossible to actually prove, thus the prevalent use as the excuse for the credit card chargeback. How do you prove that something you had was working, when the buyer claims it's broken, to an uninterested 3rd party credit card company? It's in the best interest of the credit card company to side with the buyer so that they don't have to give the money back once they TAKE it back from your bank account without any single shred of proof or even consent. That's what I'm talking about. The only reason I ended up getting my money back for most of the fraudulent transactions were that the credit card company reluctantly admitted that the cards were stolen. Even then, they charged me 20$ fees EVERY time a chargeback was initiated, and REFUSED to refund those fees.

I'm very impressed by this and am already making offers on guitars! Now...if I could only find a Gibson SG in tobacco sunburst like the one I sold back in 84 to make the rent...

No, I haven't but I will! On a good news front, I found a 1975 Tobacco Sunburst Gibson SG like the one I sold back in '84. Except that one was a 76, but this is close enough. The only drawback is that it doesn't have the "tarback" pickups. Man, those things could sing! I've seen them on eBay, though, but for a pretty penny!
I'll check out gbase.com. Thanks!
