Can you point me in the right directoon, something google do not have clear answer to. Some say its Tannoy Reval 402?

I was thinking about those too...but they're much more upper mid focused than NS10's....still pay the extra $10 for black...the creams look awful! =P

Neumann 120s. What you mix on them sounds better on EVERYTHING else. Liks NS10Ms but without the ear fatigue and with better bass response.

I found the Adam A7X's to be very much like a new version of the NS10's. I agree with Ward too, the Neuman's are very easy to listen too.

Pricy too. I use a pair of $56 Parts Express mini monitors on my bench. They used the AMT ribbon tweeters and a 6" woofer, very revealing. Yes, you will hear more details with these than any silk dome cloth tweeter. Not active, but most internal speaker power amps suck. I use an Adcom GFA 535 with some better transistors and a lot of precision resistors, sounds amazing. It's a direct coupled design with a cap used for the +26 db gain set. I bought that amp new in 1990. It's a workhorse with thousands of hours of use, still going strong.

If Yamaha or anybody else knew why NS-10s or Auratones work so well, they'd be a hit. Most crappy speakers send mixes into left field a lot more often. Carl Tatz has best theory I've heard about NS-10s. He says that when placed on the bridge of a large console, they are almost the only monitors of any kind that don't have a big dip around 150Hz!

I did a lot of testing on that back in the early 1990's when I got my AP rig. I had Carl Yanchar of Lakeside Associates do the room tuning and we both found low end notching from any meter bridge mounted near field speakers. The fix was to tilt them up a bit or mount them a few inches above the meter bridge. It was all about the angles, like a game of billiards.
