Do you own or used tg2? I heard this preamp and really liked what I heard.

I don't own any TG preamps, but I have used them a lot.
I do own Chandler Germanium Compressors, and I've had to deal with customer service exactly one time in the eight years after buying them that I've owned them (and they did a fantastic job.)
The most similar preamp in tone to the TG stuff to me are Neve 1073/1066/1272 stye preamps, but even then the curve is a bit different, however if you own both they play nice together and whatever has a bit more sub low-end, complex harmonic content will do best with the TG's.
Joe Malone (JLM AUDIO) has a pretty darn close clone for the 500 series which is a bit cheaper, however it's not exactly the same design as the output attenuation works differently and it has continuously variable impedance. Both companies use their own propriety transformers though.

Gets a lot of use on electric guitars , kick, and bass amps here. cheers wiz

I've got the TG2. I like it on bass and guitar and use the DI for keyboards. It has an upper end lift so it'll add a bit of sparkle. Lows are full and tight. Its a great pre-amp but it is solid state. They've used references to the Beatles, but it wasn't until the Abbey Road album, I believe, that Abbey Road went to solid state consoles. It had been tube consoles built around V72s and then Redd 47 preamps. Ken Scott said a lot of the engineers at Abbey Road at the time did not like the move to solid state when it happened. Nevertheless, the TG2 clones the Abbey Road solid state circuit. The very early ones, first few, had different transformers. All the more recent ones have transformers for Chandler. If you prefer tube, Chandler now has their Redd 47 emulation as well.

I had Germaniums and really dug them, money got tight and I sold them...ugh, I really liked this preamp, it just sounded amazing that day, in that room, with that mic, on that singer....

Is the Redd 47 a tube circuit? Yes it is. God the clips sound so good. Urgh. It's too expensive for my budget...but I wants a pair. =P

I love my TG2 on guitars and, as Rob says above, it goes well with the Neve flavor of my BAEs when I need additional drum tracks.

Michael Wagener swears by the TG2 and TG500. And I've heard his results... well, all Micheal's results are amazing but that's besides the point... and they are of the best marketing tools that Chandler has.

My ears just heard a perfect balance on the tg2, and a go to on vocals. I had the germs, and they sounded really good on everything, a little on the darker side, but warm and beautiful. They seemed to smooth out those upper frequencies that I never liked on some of my Peluso mics that I also sold.

I can't believe the price. I was really liking the Vari-mu comp. it looks very nice. I also found this video.

If my memory serves correctly, the tg2's were a little brighter than I liked on vocals. But I'd like to try it again.

My gas is high with these 500 units. My brain tells me to go with more of what I know, but damn, they're sexy.

Has anyone tried the Mojave ma-200 vs the ma-300. I am really curious if the ma-200 cardiod only is the same as the ma-300 multi-pattern. I had a demo of a Mojave MA300 and it didn't sound anything like what was in the video. I wasn't using a tg2 preamp though. Maybe that pre really brings out the best in that mojave and they are a great match.
