I was wanting a 2013 I7 Quad at least 15". I need the one before they started dumbing them down. Take out the superdrive and insert 2 SSD's. I haven't tried PT12 yet, not sure about doing the subscription. ..

The newer licenses come with 10 / 11 / 12. I think I'm about to pull the upgrade trigger from 9 HD to 12HDX. Costly, but worth it to me for a wide variety of reasons. I've been assured that you don't have to ride the "subscription" train. It's optional. Who knows though. It's so freaking confusing. Either way, I'll stay off upgrades until 14. or maybe 15.

Yeah, but the problem is, you will have to pay the list price to get back on the train at 14 or 15...Of course, I guess that's cheaper than paying $600 a year for the subscription, right?

There will be deals out there, probably not for HD but he could always buy the service plan and pay it over time!

Everyone I talk to is telling me that PT 12 was created to change the structure of how it's licensed, nothing really worth upgrading to if you're looking for features. Just what I was told by someone that would know. I run 11, if you're still on 10 though then I would because you get the better engine. Going from 10 to 11 is like going from a mazda to a porsche.

True but people who had 11 seem to 12 more stable so some bugs got fixed and or software was tweaked.

I feel like I'm going to have to go to 12 so I don't have to pay the $899 year after next...sigh.

I'm on 12 now, coming from 10. There's a world of difference in terms of stability. I've had no CPU Overload failures since upgrading, and I've been working in some of the same sessions I was working on in 10.
Besides stability there's not much else i would write home about, but knowing that my session isn't going to randomly lock up or crash on me has been good piece of mind.

I'm not a "stay on the bleeding edge" kind of guy. Once I get it and get stabilized, I'm not into changing DAW versions and OS versions every 4 months. Or even once a year...... or two. :-)

Be more worried about avid being around year after next.. PT will survive but. Yeah, but I've been hearing that for over a decade. They seem to have more than 9 lives, and their really LARGE clients (hollywood) are not flinching one tiny bit. Little home studios, yeah, that's a different story. But their bread and butter keeps on paying, so I'm not worried the least bit.

If this new buisness model of 12 being an evolution not a big new version every couple of years I and the big clients will be quite happy handing over a certain pre determined amount that can be budgeted ahead of time rather than hearing we get to shell out a major chunk at some show ! If they listen to us and give us what we want Ill be ponying up to the service / update window!

They said the same Eucon bug fixes that are in 12 are going to be in the next 11 update.
