Don't know what I think...It always annoyed me on GS that everything wasn't in one place...I guess once there are x number of posts, you want to split it out just because things roll off so fast...but I'm kinda thinking maybe it should just be one big board right now. What do you guys think?

True that GS became too big to actually find useful stuff, but i do like some order. Although the idea of sorting gear by its cost always seemed silly to me. What do you guys think about something like this?
Pro Gear - Signal Chain ( discussions about how mics, pres, eqs or comps work together for specific sources or applications) - Mics / Pres (discussions about how mics or pres sound, are designed, manufactured, distributed, painted... etc) - Outboard (discussion about eqs, comps, converters, how they sound or affect the sound and what we use them for)

I think splitting out to at least rudimentary sections would help organize it. It would certainly help folks who are looking for more specific information on a topic. Structure never hurt anyone, but the problem with GS was that the majority of folks posting just ended up posting drivel anywhere they felt like it.
I think at least split it apart by function:
Instruments
Pro audio
Tech
Production
ETC.
You get the drift.

I'm just not sure there's enough content yet to split up the boards too much. I hate going to boards after a week and there are only 12 new posts...I might just keep it the way it is right now and change as necessary. Great ideas, though. I'm definitely open to any ideas - I can change stuff pretty quickly.

I actually like everything in one spot , I'm not the biggest fan of sub-forums . Mostly because I have an interest in everything , so I like to scroll down one list of topics quickly rather than have to keep checking multiple different sub-forums . The only sub-forum I think necessary is a "For Sale" section . But I don't like when they split up "For Sale" and "Wanted" into different sections . Thread Titles should have "FS" or "WTB" though . So for me personally I think only two sections are necessary , "Pro Gear" - even if it gets off topic of gear , I don't care . "For Sale - Wanted "

Leave it simple, but some separation is required. I think like you have now is good. SOmething more like: pro audio discussions performance discussions (ie. guitar bass. other instruments etc can be added there) diy, tech (maybe have tech as main, DIY can be a sub forum of tech) and your mandatory classified section

I just don't know if I want to delve into the classified side...I have no idea about legal ramifications and all that jazz. I'd love to have it, though.

I never liked the idea of splitting gear topics by pricing like "High End" or "Low End" gear like it's done over at GS. Let's face it: It is not the price that makes a piece of gear suitable or worthy for pro-audio use. If it gets the job done, it gets the job done, no matter what brand it is and how expensive it was. One can record an excellent track with a cheap SM58 and an Alesis 3630 can be an excellent and versatile VCA compressor after changing opamps and beefing up the psu, as worthy as, say a Drawmer or the like would be in your studio... ABX testing is your friend... How your customers react on brand names, ok, this is a different story. I heard of some guys, that made new faceplates for their modded "cheap brand name" units like Alesis/Behringer/'you name it' - and nobody ever complains about the sound. Over at GS nobody wants to hear that there are top40 chart productions made with <$200 Behringer ADA8000 converters, stock, not modded, or that e.g. a Behringer Ultramatch SRC2496 can come in very, very handy as a digital swiss army knife for everyday tasks... but it is the truth. Sure, i also had Mytek converters, but i still use Swissonic converters that only costed a fraction of that. So, I propose not to split gear subforums by pricing or brand names of products...

Maybe a "Gear Theory" kind of subforum is an idea? This could be a place where common facts and science rules. E.g. for discussions about things like proper studio grounding techniques, acoustics, psychoacoustics, studio levels, connecting vintage and modern gear properly, digital standards etc.pp..

Hey John, is there a way to set the threads so that there is a link to the next page at the bottom? I'm only seeing it at the top and it's a pain to scroll back up to get to the next page.

Actually, the page numbers should "float" as you scroll down...A bunch of us missed it at first. Go to a thread that has more than one page, scroll down, look up at the top left and see if the page numbers float down with you...

I can't believe that's floating there! i totally didn't see it, and though about asking the same question?? My confidence is shattered, now i have to go back and check my mixes for mistakes that i didn't hear, that were "floating" right there! Damn you Kenn!!! As far as forum layout? Alls i can say, is i wish i would have been more organized with my audio files, before they built up into massive numbers.
