I actually like the sound of the unprocessed drums best... but some of his methods are really interesting.
Worth watching when you have some time I reckon.
cheers

How do you get those Gain reduction channels to show up in PT's? I remember seeing that but had forgot about it...wonder if it's only for HD?

A little smacky and over compressed for my tastes, but lots of great ideas.

Yeah, the Slate samples are usually pretty over cooked unless your doing hard rock and metal. The new blackbird samples however are a breath of fresh air. They are just great sounding samples.
Btw, who knows how to use personal samples in trigger 2? I've got a number of great wave files from sessions I've recorded and would like to be able to use them in trigger?

I have done it .. but it was a while ago... I remember, you used an editor.. but something tells me that might have been superseded by an easier method... It wasn't that difficult from memory... cheers Wiz

Yeah, you can use single hit sample files directly, or you can build up multi hit samples in the instrument editor.

Hmm, just listening to the first couple minutes during the samples.. I don't really like any of those drum sounds. They sound so fake, regardless of sounding processed or not. The snare really gets my goat. Even unprocessed it sounds bad.

Its quite shocking how taste changes over the decades. SSD drums is not my taste too, but there is a new generation. They like it if everything jumps just right into the face. SL is clever he makes samples for the younger people. And to be true who needs more samples? I have too much of em. It will get harder and harder to find USP for those sample library companies. That maybe leads to those ideas too. Much more pleasing to my ears was XLN drums. And I do use them like crazy without getting tired of them.

The new version of Addictive Drums seems to be quite, well, addictive. A friend of mine swears by it. I heard some samples and they sounded pretty good.

JK turned me on to AD2 (in a post somewhere?) and I love the sounds. 1st fake drums that I've enjoyed working with. As for the SSD's I find the mix knob function is your best friend but can be nice at mix time in smaller doses.

The snare really gets my goat. Even unprocessed it sounds bad. I've got Superior Drummer and none of the snares sound like the real thing to me. I think the way to go is to get a great snare sample(s)- if you've got one/some- and put it on the grid. Of course then you have to deal with the mismatch of the SD or Slate snare drum in the overheads and room(s). So, it's tough.
