That locking feature is awesome where you can lock the feature you like and then browse with it on all the presets.

Wow, I hope it lets me upgrade. Omnisphere is the single best soft synth I've owned.

This and a few Kontakt / NI softsynths are singlehandedly making me upgrade my PT HD3 to a HDX system. Many, many thousands of dollars, but sometimes, you just have to have something..... :-)

why? They're native plugins.

Indeed they are. But System OS, PT versions, Installers, non-backwards compatibility, etc. conspire against us, no?
Spectrasonics has traditionally been good, but not this time with backwards compatability. And NI is notoriously horrid in outdating all but the very latest OS's - with the added NI pita of developers not easily being able to save in older versions of Kontakt.
And so....I'm probably going to drop close to 10G's to once again get "caught up and current". Makes a guy long for the tape machine and console days - even though they cost more.....
I keep swearing that someday I'm going to step off the boat, but <sigh> not this time. At least ONE more major overhaul of the DAW/Computer systems....

maybe use a different DAW that doesn't depend on hardware dongles so much? or find some way of running Omnisphere on a mac mini or cheap laptop that syncs to your existing DAW. that should be easy to do via Midi Time Code/ Machine Control, and interface with lightpipe and some lightpipe cables. Motu Ultralites come to mind for $500...

I run Kontakt 2,3 and 5. I like holding onto my old programs that you can't find any more.

But I work fast and hard, and at this point, I think I'll stay with PT HD(X) and Avid's stupid subscription mania due mostly to it's power and my familiarity. It's not worth the little savings in money to switch up for me and have to learn a whole new way of working. Software and computer hardware is designed by fault to "outdate" us. If you're satisfied to stay status quo, you'll be fine for a decade - or more. But if there's something new you need or want, you're hosed within a year or two. I made it a pretty long time this time, but all good things come to an end. And it's time to pony up. PS - an ultralight ain't gonna get it for me.... heh heh

Best of all, it works over ethernet. Lots of big boy film composers use this and I've been using it for the past several years with great stability.

I use it already - and have for many years. The problem is incompatibility between DAW versions, OS versions, plugin versions and installers as they relate to various OS's and each other. If all I did was mix and record other people, I'd be good for a long time. But with soft synths and writing setups, it's not nearly so easy. Without the latest greatest of all the above, you are in for a dead end sooner or later if you have an eye towards the latest greatest VSTi's or libraries. I beat the odds with my PTHD system. The hardware has lasted me 10+ years. The computer 5. Like it or not, it's time to upgrade. And the cost is never cheap.

Nope. And PT vs OS vs Plugins conspire against me for making it all work without a hardware, software, computer, OS upgrade.
