Thanks Kid, I was looking around but couldn't find any info on them. I think Blackspade has a new 251 based mic coming out soon. I wonder if it's with a Tim Campbell capsule If anyone can do it, Shannon can. The new one is no UM25. It's a complete ground up re-work and looks like it'll be (1) and amazing mic and (2) more $$$ than the UM25 was. I think they are using Tim's capsule, which IMO is one of only a very few real options for a premium 251.

Ward, Telefunken makes that themselves and is for sale on their website for $1000. That is just insane.

Tim, raise your prices but give those of us on the waiting list the benefit of the old pricing please! (P.S. Hint hint)

That's a very pretty mic, kidvybes. Do you think that there is any accuracy to what was said in the description? I am referring to the following statements: "The use of silver plated wire inside the mike (not available on the market) and the six conductor silver plated cable generate a few additional db at the output. This improvement is unique. TheTesla silver plated wire comes from a NASA spool. The cable from the mike to the PSU (six feet long) is a Tesla 6 conductors silver plated and is double braide schielded. The alloy for these wires includes rodium and some other NASA secrets..."
"This ElaM 251 (with silver plated wires and silver content soldering material) has certainly superior performances than its original brother leaving the plant."

Obviously, this particular mic has been kissed by an extraterrestrial lifeform while it has been on a secret NASA mars mission... Btw, is rodium the same as rhodium? I wouldn't buy it. Who knows, maybe there is some plutonium in the alloy that has been overlooked. Who knows, where this NASA wire spool comes from. Area(2)51? Maybe it has been stolen by the russian mafia...
Really? Do you really have to talk about NASA secrets nowadays to sell a vintage german mic? Unbelievable...

That's a very pretty mic, kidvybes. Do you think that there is any accuracy to what was said in the description? ...I think the seller is trying to add about $10K of "sizzle" to justify the BIN "steak" price... ...if I'm not mistaken, I think that may be the very same 251 that Buzz Aldrin had in his pocket during his moon walk...("is that a 251 in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?")...

Well, that's just ridiculous... Anyway...after hearing those DIY C12's from Tony's thread with Tim's caps, I really don't think I would spend $9000 on a reissue...plus, you can get an exact body too, right?

...plus, you can get an exact body too, right? ...besides the Flea replica body, AMI offers a version that is less expensive, possibly not as accurate, but still very nice: www.tab-funkenwerk.com/id91.html...Dany Bouchard built one a while back (pic below)... Attachments:

Are we talking about C12 or ElaM251? Cause FleA seems to have the 12 body?

I want prints for ELAM 251 first, then other popular classics as well.

Cause FleA seems to have the 12 body? ...yes this thread is focused on the 251, but when John asked about "an exact body available" he was referencing the DIY C12 in that particular post...there is no source currently for an accurate 251 body/headbasket (outside oif Telefunken of course)...

I was just saying that the benefit of doing a C12 is that the replica bodies are readily available - not so with the 251's.

I was just saying that the benefit of doing a C12 is that the replica bodies are readily available - not so with the 251's. but the difference between the two microphones is incredible. The base components and build by the same company would lead one to believe that they should be far more similar than they actually are. The 251 is the ultimate. The perfect love child of a U47 and a C12.

That combination might be my dream mic. The best mic I've ever used was a mint vintage C12, but on sound files, I love the U47 and the MKU-47, so the 251 oughtta be the ticket for me.

Tim, make sure to let me know right before you raise your prices so I can buy 4 more haha
Shannon, make a reasonably priced body and I'm in. The only thing that's been holding me back on my build is [money and] the body. I have the capsule and tube already. If no one wound up making a correct body, I was going to use an HT-11A. I have a UM25 headbasket here as well, and was going to paint the rear side black for superior sound enhancement
The transformer is an issue. According to some sources, the current Haufe is different/not as good as the vintage T14/1. The AMI T14 is readily available, but is different from the T14/1

Has anyone heard a Bock 251? My favorite mic! I can't imagine a mic sounding better.

Is the 251 body copyright-ed?

I have a machinist buddy who asked me for a print for the 251 body. He wants to check it out. I also used to work for a wirecloth company that can get me material for the headbasket. I would like to investigate this and possibly come up with a few solutions providing the body parts we need for this 251 build. If somebody could just get me a print that would be great.
