I haven't listened yet, but will tonight.
BTW - did my first "real" work with the Brute and everything went really smoothly. It definitely adds a little top and some mid info in the 1-3kHz range...strangely, it's not bad though...Once I pulled a little of that out, the vocal was pretty perfect. Honestly, one of the best I've ever gotten...but I think that might have a lot to do with the modded CV4...
BTW - I just pulled out the VF600 op amps and replaced with two Red Dots...gonna see what that sounds like...I think the VF600 is supposed to be thick and clean - maybe more towards a 990...but I'm talking over my head.

I think he said they upgraded everything and ended up spending around $1900...Don't know if I would've put that much money into it.

I was told by one of the guys that the parts cost approx $1600 w/ no upgraded components. I think all my friends did upgrades beyond that.

I'll have to price it out, as i've been told by many, and on the drip site, it says approximately $900 usd? i'll verify in the next couple days and post up what i find. It seems silly to pay that much for a clone when you can buy the original for about that?? thanx T

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I bailed on the project. Originally, Greg at Drip was telling one of us that it would be closer to $900-$1100.

whats your buddy's take on the clone? sample clips are cool, but the info derived is not as valuable as the opinion of someone you trust, especially when they've lived with the piece for a bit.

I'm sure there's a great feeling of satisfaction to use gear you've built yourself.

Yes sic, it is a pretty great feeling, almost as satisfying as the first time you plug it in, and it doesn't burst into flames lol!

I tend to go thru gear out of curiosity for something new, so DIY presents an issue when considering resale. In the case of the Drip STA, it's too close in price to the retro for me to personally spend the time building it.

Well, I'm back in STA-level land...this time the Drip version. One of my buddies made me a deal I couldn't refuse... no horse heads were involved, I promise. The time constant mod is very cool and very usable times. It's a six position switch... 1 - single / fast release 2 - double / fast release 3 - single / med release 4 - double / med release 5 - single / slow release (original gates recovery time) 6 - double / slow release
Overall it sounds thicker and more goo than the Retro...could be due to the 6386 tube, which I did not have in my Retro. In any case, it's really, really smooth and thick. Me likey.

You know what - I think I just deleted them to put the files for your vox and AG up...I had maxed out my soundcloud...
The Brute is good, but doesn't have near the thickness and doesn't compress as smoothly. But you can definitely get kick ass results with it. I was really blown away by the Anamod 660. I thought it was fantastic.
