I mean, Jason Isbell, , Lindi Ortega, Rival Sons, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson...WTF...How about the occasional James Bonamy or Color Me Badd? Leave some crumbs for the rest of us...
I keed, I keed. He's awesome...

Don't forget about Anderson East, Lake Street Dive, A Thousand Horses or California Breed (Jason Bonham and Glenn Hughes)! The list goes on and on!
He's just a cool dude with a cool vibe. Artists and regular folks just want to be around him. Guess that's a big key to being a great producer.
I think and sure hope this Chris Stapleton record will change the course of country music. Something has to get FGL off the charts.
The mainstream success of Smoke by A Thousand Horses will probably open up some new doors as well.

I hope so too. Hopefully artists will gravitate towards songs that have substance once enough of these get out there.

I only heard Chris recently on Letterman. I was blown away by his voice and the authenticity of his writing. Made me look for a new job. I thought this live version sounded better than the record. He's gonna appeal to a lot of different audiences. I'm an Allmans fan and this is in that wheel house too.

There is a lot to like about that, even apart from the song.
They look like normal dudes... and dude 8) (not a bunch of models and gym junkies...)
Also, a jazz master for country... cool.
cheers

That's his wife Morgan Hayes - had a deal for a while...too good for mainstream country.
The more I listen to this song, the more I absolutely love it. Feels like Leon Russell and Waylon Jennings had a baby and he went to school with Al Green.

I really didn't know Zakk Wylde sang that good.

That was great. Was that Kevin Barry on the steel?
Gonna check out some more of this.

I just saw he did the new Europe record. I'm not sure how you will interpret THAT in bogarting of cool bands....but, I give him points for stepping outside his typical fare.

I was kinda secretly hoping this would lure Cobb over here

I forgot that he worked with Europe. These bands are now coming to him, he's not finding them. So maybe the question is, when will all these cool bands and artists stop bogarting Dave Cobb?

Fork in the road of life. Closing up shop has taken it's toll. Half written album sitting here in demo form kinda in the "who gives a F" mode....wa, wah....poor pitiful me. One thing I know for certain, though--recording gear is NOT something I'm lacking! Not something holding my interest these day, you know?

Absolutely. The industry is in such depressing shape right now, it's hard to give a damn. Hang in there, man.

Cool behind the scenes video of Dave Cobb's place. Anyone recognize that vocal mic at 1:41?

Thanks, I was shocked by how much distortion there was on the latest Rival Sons vocals. It sounded old school, like overloading a couple 1176s and hitting tape hard. It works for that guys voice. Great producing on Dave's part, fits the artist and material.
