that G-below-middle C octave sounds too much like a k2600 piano for me. that k2600/pc88 piano is way too identifiable in a mix. i want a piano that doesn't sound like a sample library. or late 90's synth. that's why i like the American Concert D.

That one doesn't have enough body for me. Kind of pinky sounding. It wouldn't sit well in a country mix imo.

This is Alicia's Keys? What's up with the reverb on this video? I'm assuming that's what it is; at 0:24-26 it sounds the damper must come up, but the sound lingers -- and it's a messy wash of notes.

Bought the new Pearl piano a couple of days ago, and I have to say - first impressions.....it's quite possibly the best VI piano I've ever had opportunity to hear. Still fighting with my controller, but I know it's a POC, and if I had better control, I can really make this one sing. Plus it will cut as well. Nice balance between the two.

Here's that 8 Dio Steinway on a jazz number. Sounds really good for this I think. NoFilterChuck should put a horn on this with me! db.tt/ht34ntIM

try swapping it out with "Piano in Blue" from cinesamples, if you have it. that 8dio sounds like the piano from the thad Jones Mel Lewis "Opening Night 1966" record, which was the grand piano in the Village Vanguard at the time.

I do have Piano In Blue. I'll swap it out and post it back up. Curious myself now.

PIB is the better sounding of the two for my money, but it pans funny. Maybe it's just too wide, but I hear notes on the left and right, and practically nothing center. It's almost jarring when the player comps with the left hand against the melody. It's like the piano is jumping around the room.

put it in mono mode. they programmed a switch for that in the interface.. Can't imagine it would sound very good in mono, not to mention I can't think of any applications where I would prefer a mono piano. It does sound quite good in stereo, but it's just a very uneven sounding spread to me.

it sounds exactly like the piano from Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue when you switch it into mono.

cowboycoalminer just curious why you would cover this jazz standard. it's been done to death. Why not tackle a tune like "Lush Life"? who played piano on your thing?

I believe it really is the piano from Kind Of Blue.

I believe it really is the piano from Kind Of Blue. yes, they sampled the Capitol Records piano used on all of those late 1950s-early 1960's jazz records before that studio was torn down to make an apartment complex. it was a sad day for historic recording studios when that happened.
