So, what's the deal with these mics? Anyone used them? Any experiences? www.korbyaudio.com/products.phpThe KAT System seems like a pretty cool idea (similar to the Blue Bottle without the Blue stigma). Handful of different caps to mimic the sounds of the greats. Always have the right mic for the singer at your fingertips. Shannon, you worked on these right? This is your brothers company or something, is that right?

Thanks for bringing this up! I've been toying with the idea of a KAT system and was going to start a thread on it.
Tell us, those in the know, what is the verdict??

I heard a MS two/mic drum recording once that blew me away. At least one, maybe both were Korby. I've always been intrigued.

I had a KAT4 system for over 10 years and liked it. I had the 67M, 251, 47, and C12 heads. The 67M (M is for modified for my extended highs and lows that a stock 67) and 251 heads were superb. The C12 head was decent, but I didn't use it much. The 47 head never sounded right. It sounded like it was trying too hard to sound vintage. It had a very muffled sound.
There were two downsides to the KAT system that ultimately led me to trade mine for a Flea 47. First, I never really liked the process of swapping the heads. They are not as easy to get off and on as you may be led to believe. Mine required some significant pulling and pushing to change the capsules. This always made me nervous.
The second and most important factor in my going a different direction was the Korby's service, or lack thereof. I had a couple of times when the mic wasn't acting right and I sent it in for service. I completed one of the service forms on their website and heard back in a couple of days that I should send in the mics and that the turn around time would be about two weeks. Each time, it was more like 4-6 months before I received the mic back. During that stressful time period, I would follow-up with phone calls and emails to Kimberly Korby, who handles these things. I've never talked to Tracy. In all the times I called, they never once answered the phone. The only communication I had was via email and those emails were untimely, sporadic and generally uninformative. I got the distinct impression that Tracy doesn't tell Kimberly what is going on with the mics and then she is put in the unenviable position of having to field customer requests without any real information.
If service had been more reliable, I likely would have kept mine. I still miss the 67M capsule and feel that it may be the finest mic on my voice I have heard.
Best of luck.

The Kat system is awesome, Yes it is my Bro Company i used to work for him, I think it Sound Incredible, having a little brief case that whoops ass no matter where you are. Emulating the classics 67,47, C12, 251, C800 think of the cost for all those mics one by one . lmfao Not sure of the price now but it was a deal then. My brother a genius I honestly can't say enough good about them. They are hard to find, Most that have them will never give them up. YOu have a hot swappable Head and can put on any flavor you like.

In that case, thanks 4 the kind words ragan I had the right vibe for the U47 capsule in the beginning. But it was slightly muddy for my taste, which did not appeal to me. If I want U47 sound, it becomes Soundelux mic. But U67 capsule is my darling any time 4 female vocal!
