Any of you cats have experience with the Avid Artist Control? It seems like it would be a handy little surface. Is there anything better for Pro Tools control these days? Any issues with this one? Anything new coming down the pipe? What are you guys using?

For PT you can't beat Eucon , some build issues but unless you spend a fortune on the bigger AVID controllers you won't do better with PT !

I used one. It worked fine with Cubase. So, I assume it works fine with Pro Tools as well.
I ended up selling it. I just found I could still be more productive with the mouse alone, instead of going back and forth between the controller and the mouse.

Bumping this. Any fresh takes on these? How about the Artist Control vs. a Transport and Mix?

It'll take an awfully persuasive sales rep from SSL offering me more than $!5K against a 948 to get me to part with my C|24 which is just about as good a HUI as it gets.

I use an artist mix and its great for pro tools. Intergration is pretty seemless. The scribble strips are nice as im a more 'ears only' kind of guy and a quick glance down makes it so I can see where im at. Id like a transport. For studio one the artist mix is ok. Integration can be a pita and every so often I have to remind studio one that the artist mix is there wh I ch generally seems to require a restart. I have two keyboards and an external drive along with the eucon and so far there isnt much confusion on the daw side, which used to be an issue back in the day; like 5 years ago The aetist mix sits in front of my console. I'm used to a control surface so theres no going back to mouse for me.

Man, I really want to get my hands on something. So tired of mixing with trackball clicks. I just don't know if I'm sticking with PT long enough to commit to something. Also, I'm pretty uninformed relevant to control surfaces.

I picked up a used Icon Qcon Pro that's been serving us pretty well. One Op uses Logic and the rest of us use Pro Tools and it's been serviceable in both. It also has the ability to expand by sets of 8 with the Qcon EX if need be. It's certainly not as seamless with pro tools as the Artist is going to be, and it can be a little buggy at times. I haven't used any eucon controllers with PT12, but i would imagine they're a little more fluid than the Mackie hui that the Qcon Pro uses. Still though, it's something that works with multiple DAWs very easily and can be expanded in the future.

I had been on the fense between the artist and wcon. In the end i needed a slightly smaller footprint but actually from what ive read other than pro tools the qcon is a little more adapatabke with other daws. The new version looks slick

I'm also somewhat unsure which way to go. I currently have 2 Motormix that are asking for a full molex replace. Huge PITA. So I have been considering upgrading them. Avid control + mix seem like the obvious way to go. I like their functionality but man, they feel really cheap. Now I'm really eyeballing the new raven mti2. At 1k it seems like a great deal. But I dont know how i would feel using it. Any hands on experience??
