This one is for the old cats knowing real gear.
I recognized that channel three has a lot more hiss than all the the other channels. If I crank the monitors the other channels are hissing too, but its hard to hear. As soon I put in channel three there is a much louder audible hiss.
I can measure it its around - 60 dbfs. The other channels are way down at -95 to -100 dbfs
Normal or a defect?

This why in the glory days studios had guys on staff to keep everything running up to snuff. Miss those days.

Most times bad caps end up crackling or sometimes popping noises as faders/pots are moved. What's the console?

Hm, many possibilities. Yes, could be caps, sure. Try first using every switch and pot on the channel for a few times, eventually cleaning all contacts, switches, pots, fader. Fader working ok? The channel hiss can be reduced with the fader, correct? Does it go away if you use line instead of mic input? Is the hiss introduced before or after the insert point? Just some questions to localize the problem and make things easier... Do you have a schematic or service manual? Flakey transistors can also lead to hiss. Opamp sockets can oxidate over years and cause all kind of trouble (sometimes probs went away by just pressing them a bit into the socket...if the issue goes away, cleaning time...).

Look at the electrolyte caps for signs of defect. Convex top. Cracked top. Unusual color like something has leaked. If only one channel makes problems, maybe only one source of defect, no general problem of the whole console, and most likely it is just one cap gone bad....

To answer your specific question, no it's not normal. As others have mentioned, it's time for some service.

"Is this normal? Console gets older?"
Well yeah, it's not going to get any younger!

Thanks for all the answers. I just opened up the console there was a lot of dust I used the vacuum cleaner and some tape head cleaner, which was left over when I sold the Telefunken M 15. It solved the problem.... it was dirty inside....could not believe it....but the dirt seems to find its way inside.
Channel three also had drop outs - squeezes and clicks. Dust can cause those noises!? Interesting...

Dust is the natural enemy of consoles!

I reckon it's a switch or pot on the channel.
see if it comes back in a few weeks.

I reckon it's a switch or pot on the channel. see if it comes back in a few weeks. Yup can be the case. The HPF button when used made a lot of funny noises.... cleaned it too. I love this little console because it can take a lot of low end energy without sounding bad....

Just to save yourself a bit of trouble make sure the eq isn't unknowingly engaged with the top end boosted or that something isn't inserted or patched into that channel One of my favorite stupid features of the Status is every switch has a LED! From my live days I hate hate hate trying to figure out the position of cheap switches in the dark!
