I know there are tons of sounds in each classic synth, but I would think there are "signature" sounds that are attributed to the different synths...For example, can you hear a particular song and go, "Oh - that's a Juno blah blah..." Maybe I'm looking for a Synth Primer I guess. It would make it a lot easier to pick out stuff when I'm looking for pads. I know I tend to like that dreamy Prophet sound...etc.

Have you tried the u-he Diva vst? It has templates for a number of the classic synths: MS-20, Oberheim OBx, Juno Alpha and Juno 60, Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, Moog mini and poly. It's by far the closest you can get to the real thing. There are lots of very accurate patch libraries available, some great Prophet sounds. I recommend "Analog by VSP" for loads of classic sounds. Great instrument, totally fills my synths needs for the moment.

I cant say its this synth but I can tell you as musician that you can create a lot of classic synth-sounds with logic. and to not forget there are many freebies......dx7 for example....uhe as well.... But most of the time logic stock synths serve me well.....

Yeah - I've found a lot of good ones in Cubase too. I'm just trying to be more edumacated on it instead of searching through hundreds every time I need a pad...lol

Yeah - I've found a lot of good ones in Cubase too. I'm just trying to be more edumacated on it instead of searching through hundreds every time I need a pad...lol I had the same question two years ago. I asked a friend who had well known World-Hits in the 80s..... He advised not to buy new plug ins, instead understandingb the basics of diffeent sythesis forms. So I did made a research on well known syntsmlike dx7 or the juno. I read about the synthesis method at wikipedia and went on with just experimenting with a coroponding soft synth.... Helped a lot and saved some cash too.....

To me, the Moog and Oberheim are very easy to pick out of the crowd. The new Korg Kronos, Oasys etc can emulate them very accurately though. I think Omnisphere's interface makes it easy to find what you're looking for. If I strictly want to emulate a Moog I'll use Prophet 5, Messiah or Massive.
