The Slate FG-X does add some edge in the upper mids I think, especially when you push it. I try to keep it around 3/4 or less of the volume possible. Slate adds distortion. Sizzle. It's lopping off the peaks and replacing them with little sizzle clipped transients. It's quite effective, IME. That's what the "dynamic perception" is doing--determining how much distortion to leave. The two "low punch and detail"--are about detecting transients. Low punch looks for low frequencies transients and adds more crunchies to them...like a multiband clipper. Effective plug in for quick "make this loud" faux masters. Which means I don't ever use it on my own stuff. Loud masters are for pussies. That's my new campaign slogan.

That’s pretty much what I like too, though the past year I’ve been doing the Breaur set up with a multi buss out from my SSL 6k and running an eq last on the Program insert. It’s been working out nice. I think it’s better then adding a lot of eq on all the individual channels, especially top end. Good to gave you here James Thanks man.

Good to gave you here James Thanks man. Hey James Lugo - glad you're here...GS mods used to make me nervous...now I don't really give a shit. Live and let live! Hope you come back often.

VCC (Trident usually) SSL Comp (waves) Mpx Master Tape (waves) Clariphonic Once it starts sounding close I start putting some mastering stuff on it. Gclip and Sonnox Limiter. I used to use an RJR Sick Sick Bus Comp with the Tonebuss, that was a cool rig too. I've got an RJR sick sick sick. Nice little box. Very definitely, it is smoother than the Waves plug but each got their own deal and I quite like what both bring to the table. I still have to give VBC a go. Didn't like the API 2500 plug at all, whether that means I'll dislike the hardware is anyone's guess.

I hated the Waves 2500, but loved the hardware, fwiw.
