I checked out this video yesterday. I think the M260's sound significantly better than the M60's here.

Hmm. it's hard to tell with that video. not only are the parts random during each mic set, but some of the most telling parts of the drumkit, the cymbals and snare wires, were barely used at all.

Damnit...just set everything up the same! Can't really compare because of the different setup...Can I buy the dude?

Ha. I didn't even realize that the 260 and 60 were different configs. I knew the others were, but didn't realize those pairs were. Raw deal.

yeah, this test wasn't very real world imo, what were they thinking? That said, the most compelling sound to me was FAR and away the Glynn Johns 414's.

Makes you wonder if they under performed and they didn't want to put it out there.

Sorry drudge up an old thread, but I was going to start a new thread and found this one. So has anyone had any experience with these? There have been some interesting videos and samples of them, but I’m curious what people think of them. There is a nice clip of them as classical room mics both with and without the spheres. I hate to link to the purple site, but I figure it’s worth discussing. www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/1023399-telefunken-m60-fet-anyone-tried-them-yet.htmlHere are a few interesting videos. Really shocked how well it sounds on Upright Bass:

I like the Lulu FETs (although only had them on one or two sessions) and they are similarly priced and KM84 inspired. 84s are my fav, of course. That said, I don't mind 184s (though they can get strident) and also like those Mercenary SDCs that people seem to hate on. Maybe I'm a hack.

Anyone else think the FET60 sounds a bit over-hyped like the KM184?
Just me? KK

Anyone else think the FET60 sounds a bit over-hyped like the KM184? Just me? KK I always feel like the ELA M260 sounds a bit over hyped as well. The low end on the FET is what intrigues me. I wish I could get some thoughts from people who’ve used them.

I'm not sure how many of you are aware but the vintage Telefunken Ela M260 was a rebranded AKG C60 with the transformer in the body. It used an AC701 tube and AKG's CK28 capsule. They sound wonderful but nothing like any Neumann product.
I imagine a modern FET version would sound strident. The CK28 capsule was as least as complex as Neumann's K54 capsule and doesn't really have a modern equivalent.
