Folks.
It is every time the same.... as soon I switch on the mixing-board and the old Midiverbs etc. everything falls with bliss together. And out of a sudden there is gooseflesh on my arms.
I do not understand what the problem is with the ITB fxs? I guess they miss the analogue path in modelling?? They handle dynamics different?
Do not get me wrong there are some wonderful digital tools. But the chorus of the midiverb III on a B3 Organ is magical. It should not be a big deal to do it ITB, but as soon you switch on an ITB chorus you want to go back to the MV III.
Believe me I would love to fire my racks. But in those moments I just think OK not everything is great with plug ins.

Moral of the story: a $9 plugin can never sound like a $1000 up piece of hardware (or even a $199 midiverb, i reckon)

A fucking used midiverb III for 40$ on e-bay brings real personalty to the table. The most plug in FX are not my taste.... they make the mix sound small. On the other hand I love my tape sim to death it makes the mix sound like the old stuff I love. There is no moral I just wanted to share my JOY working on a song... and my findings.... Not to forget its half JOB and half a hobby for me....

JOB? Like the prophet in the Bible who suffered all the boils and scratched 'em with a broken piece of pottery whilst his wife stood by and mocked him?
Man, that must have sucked.

Some folks just don't take to mixing ITB. Sounds like you are one of them. Personally, I have BOTH options, and I prefer ITB. I still love some analog on the 2 bus, but the advantages of "new school" outweighs the ergonomically cool aspects of "old school". It's cool though. Glad you are digging your mixing. That's the most important thing.

ITB in the words of Tom Petty, "I don't give a fuck, i want some shit to play with, i don't trust this" lol Love Tom Petty but the latest, Hypnotic Eye, was mixed all ITB. www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov14/articles/inside-track-1114.htmI've been listening to this album a ton and I think it's one of the rare times these days where the songs are much, much better than the sonics/production. Guitar tones are a bit abrasive to my ear and some elements run a bit thin. Kind of surprised since TP's known for his fidelity. Still love the songs and album and not criticizing Ryan Ulyate - I'll never be able to do what he does......

ITB in the words of Tom Petty, "I don't give a fuck, i want some shit to play with, i don't trust this" lol He said that on the topic? LOL!! Yup touching real knobs and real faders seems to help me a lot. I guess what I do is hybrid-mixing. The mix bus is a digtal chain in the end - with the tape sim on it. I do like this work flow.

Moral of the story: a $9 plugin can never sound like a $1000 up piece of hardware (or even a $199 midiverb, i reckon) Perhaps the moral of the story is that you like what you like. Beautiful, amazing records are being mixed ITB these days and it's only getting better. But I guess it wouldn't be a gear site without the periodic bemoaning of digital recording. And for what it's worth I've loved some sounds I've got with freeware plugins, let alone $9 ones.
