Afrin nasal spray works by far the best for me. It's like taking a blanket off your speakers......

May sound crazy, but I use a turkey baster to run warm salt water through my nose. I hang my head over the sink. Goes in one nostril and out the other. Saw this on Dr Oz. Clears out the sinuses and promotes free breathing and also helps with the ears. Nasal sprays clear up the passages for awhile and then they shrink up. Promoting the need to keep using the sprays.

What do you guys do when you get a cold and you are all clogged up. It messes with my ears a whole lot. What are your solutions? Thai food! Seriously. I order or make a Panang (yellow) curry. Sometimes Tex Mex will work...something with Valentino's hot sauce maybe. As a singer who struggles during allergy season, this usually clears me out....I order or make hot food that will get my nose running...and accept the fact that I'm gonna need a few snot rags afterward. Then I nurse a cup of hot tea or room temperature water while doing vocal takes or performing after warming up. Avoid anything with lactose while your congested though as that will cause your body to make more mucus (totally gross...but true.) Nasal Sprays can help...but I prefer to use them AFTER clearing out my nasal passages this way, so that things stay clear for me for an hour or two...however I try not to use them too much as they can have some negative effects with repeated usage. Hope this helps!

Netti Pot! Changed my life seriously. Netti pots can work...but it can get messy. =P Better for situations where you don't have to share a bathroom.

My problem with neti pots is that I continue to leak fluid for 1-2 hours afterwards, which is pretty annoying. But I do use this neti pot alternative: www.amazon.com/NeilMed-Sinus-Rinse-Premixed-Sachets/dp/B000A0S5KCIt's a lot easier to use than the usual neti pot IMO. Also, it's recommended to use distilled water or boil the water in advance to kill any possible brain eating amoebas (especially if you live in Louisiana, which is where two people died from this).

Thank God for Klonopin..... before the doc put me on that stuff your little statement about brain eating critters would had sent me into a freaking frenzy. I've been using Netti's for 5 years and never boiled or used distilled. I used to even make my own salt mix. Use 1 part pickling salt, 1 part baking soda. Same as what's in those expensive as hell little packs.

My doctor got me started using this stuff 10 years ago after a sinus infection literally almost killed me: www.armandhammer.com/personal-care/nasal-care/Products/simply-saline-sterile-saline-nasal-mist.aspxIt's sort of like using a netti pot but through an atomizer and without all the mess and hassle. I keep a can at my desk and grab a quick snort out it 5 to 10 times a day and I haven't had so much as a hay fever day ever since. Saved me a lot of cash over using stuff like Flonase or Claratin.

When I go to bed, I drip a little pure olive oil in my ears. Right when I get up, I do a mix of warm vinegar and water, 50/50 mix, gently and repeatedly rinsing with an ear bulb hanging over the sink. It really works for me.

Netti pot works. But it's always hard this time of year (above the equator) when we experience huge swings between extreme low and extreme high pressure systems. They wreak havoc on me as well. Migraines, congestion, phlegm etc. And then allergy season starts!

Haha.... only two documented cases out of millions of people using them, but still... not worth the risk IMO. I'll be boiling mine.

See...Klonopin, brain eating amoebas, sticking tea kettles in your nose...again lol...I'll stick with some Thai food...it just sounds a lot more appetizing.
