After hearing some feedbacks on this forum I am pretty much set on getting 24Ai and 24Ao to replace my current interface (UFX) but because I have never used an interface with DB25 connection before it seems that I will need to purchase 6 brand new xlr to DB25 snakes and this will add a lot to the total cost (around $700...) and I was wondering if anyone on this forum could point me in the right direction on where I might be able to save some money on cables. I know that DIY is the way to go but I am hopeless at soldering and would rather pay someone to do a professional job for me so I wouldn't have to waste my time worrying about potential cable failure...

hire tonycamphd to do it, he's doing a massive dsub build for a patchbay in his studio.

thanx chuck, but NO! lol, KJ if your runs are very short? i'd suggest buying the Hosa brand, they are cheap, but if your runs are short, and you plan on plugging them in once and forgetting about them, you'll be good to go. The higher quality lower impedance cables only come into play on longer runs starting at around 25'. I've decided to do this because my runs range between 3-7' from my patchbay to my console, and i don't have the patience anymore, or money to build them myself, i just want DONE! BH has VERY good prices on these www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Audio-Snake-Cables/ci/1703/N/3992462186+4291416145Nice choice on your rig by the way, very nice!

proaudiola.com did mine before I started building my own, they do a great job and their work is solid.

It would have been awesome if tony could have built the cables for me haha Thank you guys I will have a look into Hosa and Pro audio LA. p.s. holy shit Hosa cables are really affordable.... I can buy 6 for the price of 2 mogami cables... www.redco.com/Redco-ULNBA.html hmmm.... also tempting...

The Redco house brand is quite acceptable, and a bit more cost effective. I've always preferred to pay them than to do it myself. Doing a nice neat job on cables is very time consuming. If you've got nothing else to do......

Hosa gets a bad rap but for most studios, it's very much acceptable. I use some Hosa stuff. Plenty good. Pretty sure I'll never mix Celine Dion so I'm good to go with Hosa

i've had good experiences with EWI snakes, which can be found here: www.audiopile.net/I got a 75' snake pretty cheap, they have used and b-stock sales on that site from time to time.

Let me also cast a vote for proaudiola. Those guys have saved my fingertips and thumbs whenever I've needed a lot of good quality cable made. Yes, it's easy to make cables if you're handy with an iron, but it's awful work. Miserable. lol
I can't fault the Hosa option either. If they make the size you need, and as Tony said your runs are short, their cables are adequate for most applications.

Give Bill at ProCo a call. They are doing a really nice job these days and are affordable, too. Tell him I sent you.

I have db25 cables from Redco, Hosa (TRS) and Planet Waves (modular) and they've all worked great. No issues. Not to complicate the topic but I've wondered at times if I should have considered a patchbay with a db25 connector for my Metric Halo ULN-8 instead of having a bunch of cables hanging around. www.networksound.com/index.php/products/pbays

I've got a 16ch 50' EWI from Audiopile. Nice folks and the EWI snakes are good. I don't see any DB25 options on their site though.

Redco. And I love the labeled mic bays I got from them too.

Nothing beats Redco! And If you DIY Redcos component prices and inventory are insane!

Redco all the way. Sorry, but I've seen more broken, intermittent and noisy Hosa cables in clients studio's than I can count. I'd stay away from those.

KJ, I've used Studiowiring.com in the past to get raw cable and parts for harness wiring, doing Tuchels to DB25's; saved me many many $$. He's the guy that wired A&M with Mogami way back in the day. I hand crimped and stuffed each pin of my DB25's x 6 cables to Tuchels; very rewarding to do actually. I also did Tuchels to 24 XLR's. The guy gives you the tricks of trade (jergens) if you ask.

KJ, shoot me a message with what lengths you're looking for. I've got several DB25 XLR snakes I'm no longer using (scaled back my outboard and patchbay setup). Bought several through Pro Audio LA.

Yepp, Hosa is an option we also looked into for our 24Ao. We will end up buying Cordial snakes. A nice option for many tasks on reasonably low budget for europeans...not too compromised and alot cheaper than Mogami or whatever you would think of in the first line.
