Any of you guys check out that Stevie Winwood vid that's been floating around facebook? Guy's got a serious phalanx of microphones in it.

Hmm. That guitar sound is very in-your-face for such far away mics.. You'd need serious amounts of compression to get that sound from mics that are 3ft+ away.. And then you'd get a ton of room and voice in them.. Which this lacks all the phase issues you'd have in that situation.
As someone who's recorded a ton of folk singers with acoustic guitars, I've run into just about every guitar/voice issue there is when capturing a live performance..
I'd bet that they only used one mic out of the bunch, or they used the stereo spaced pair and that's it.

first thing i thought when he started to sing was "it's wiz " 8) Second thing was "i wish it was an HD file", third was "that guitar really projects", fourth was "that studio has a SUPER low, cricket free noise floor and perfect ambience", fifth was "those mics are amazing". check out 5:08, could this be the worlds most spectacular lip sync? (and it would be spectacular!!! indeed 8) Winwood is so friggin cool.

I'm guessing he's doing stuff like this as sort of an infomercial for his studio, Wincraft. The studio space really looks sweet; gotta love a vaulted ceiling like that. Here's another one he did a couple of years ago of "Can't Find My Way Home" that was evidently shot in the lounge area. Check out the pop from the fireplace at 0:53 - really seems to work! Those mics almost look like they might be DIY 67s
