yep, it's ridiculous. here is their video. one thing to point out is that a big muff is not a distortion pedal it's a fuzz pedal. but that aside. nothing on their video sounds real to me. there are times when I feel like I'm listening to a synth.
as for the big muff. I own several muffs. it's about the only pedal I use. multiple Russians, multiple variations of the usa muff, the opamp version, little big muffs etc. none of them sound anything remotely like that video.
I don't want to be harsh but I draw solace from the fact that whenever people try to sell me plugins. 1. I laugh that they need to lather them in reverb and delay 2. I notice that the type and style of music they are using in their demo's is music I'm not interested in.

In my opinion, the guitar stuff is really not up to snuff...I demo'd the Chandler amp and was very unimpressed. Doesn't come close to the Kemper. I would LOVE for it to - it would save me some money.

I'm miffed by the muff as well... ;-)
What's up with the guitar emulations power play? So much for the API 2500, or, God forbid, some new Unison preamps...

I think this was the appetizer before the main course. They're not gonna put anything out that overshadowed the Console 2 announcement.

Yep, not even close. I demoed the new Friedman and I'm almost embarrassed for UA. Isn't near a real amp.

Haven't gotten to the 8.0 guitar stuff, but I have some of the earlier UAD guitar gear for the Apollo. It's functional, but not in the same class as a Kemper. But no amp modeling software is IMO. You could likely fool the ear enough with some room sound to do the job. I want to get deeper into the Ocean Way for that purpose. Fooling the listener into thinking it sounds good.

Its a good example where many people will hear that no emulation will sound like the real deal. Many people have at least the TS 10 and they all sound very similar because they have one father.

Fooling the listener into thinking it sounds good. Isn't that what Country music has been doing for the last several years?

Isn't that what Country music has been doing for the last several years? Well, "Cruise" and Eric Church fooled me. But the imitators, chasing the formula, not so much.

I guess I'm one of the few traditionalist who really likes Eric Church. His last record Chief sold me. He's a real artist for sure. Good writer. He might act like a dipshit sometimes but hey, who among us doesn't you know?

He's right in the pocket of what's become Bro Country, but his performance, writing and recording are top notch. And he's an outsider, not too pretty, nor cultured.

I recorded a minute of electric guitar into Apollo Twin. It's a very clean Softube Marshall into Ocean Way Studio B, remic'ed. Some LA2a and Pultec legacy too, Studer800 and a touch of EMT 140. I wouldn't use this amp sim on a critical recording, it's not non-linear enough to sound like an authentic amp, I'd want to use a Kemper. But does the whole clip sound at all convincing as an amp in a room? I didn't lay on the room, I wanted to make it sound typically close mic'ed. But it's there.
Point is, this is a guitar, an Apollo and a laptop in a spare bedroom. Only UAD plugs.

sounds cool...
you have to click on the link to get there...
certainly...great enough to write with.. which I think is the way to think about all these tools.
Not so much, if they are "real" or indistinguishable.. but .. do they allow you to do musical things you want to.. and perhaps in a place you otherwise couldnt.
nice Don
cheers

I'd certainly give you plausible and raise you one, did you try any of the pre and or tube emulations plugs/eqs or were you running out of dsp ?

I'd certainly give you plausible and raise you one, did you try any of the pre and or tube emulations plugs/eqs or were you running out of dsp ? I didn't use the pre emulations because I wanted to use the Ocean Way, which I haven't yet been able to use with a Unison plug also in the Twin Duo. Although I might have had a breakthrough on getting the Console channel and the two Console auxes to go to one stereo DAW input, but the signal was mono'ed in the Console. The channel was muted, the sends going pre-fader to Aux 1 and 2, which showed up as Apollo 3-4 in the DAW. As long as the DAW monitor was muted it worked, it'd feed back if you monitored the DAW. It's been my goal to track with the Ocean Way, as if I was recording there. I was up to 86% of the Duo's DSP with those plugs. I'd like to try the Neve 1073 or API vision, although that would be before the amp emulation. The solution would be an amp sim before the Apollo, which with a Kemper would be the way to go. I'm about 930 miles from my Kemper tonight. I hope Console 2 lets you send to another Channel strip, and another sharc, from any apollo or satellite. The Metric Halo mixer lets you do all that stuff, inside the MH box.

I'm pretty disappointed with most of the UAD guitar plugins. And shouldn't a guitar pedal model be $20? This isn't high end stuff.

I would hesitate to use any DAW software guitar sim on a critical recording, unless the recorded performance was not easily replicable with better sound.
I would agree, to pay UAD ($) freight for a software guitar amp only makes sense for low latency Apollo to DAW use. Using plug ins at low latency before recording is the whole attraction of the Apollo, Metric Halo, and MOTU interface DSP. And I would do that, if I were confident I could fool the listener to not question the provenance of the guitar recording, as a distraction from the musical whole. And I bet I could.

UAD's amps suck, no better than any others. Apple's amps they give you in Logic are better. In fact, Apple's Fenders are spot on. Other than the kemper, Apple's freebies are as good as any. I keep saying it out loud, get Logic, it keeps getting better and better.
