So, here is what I would like:
16 ch rack mount line mixer. Input trim on every channel. 4 stereo aux sends. Balanced inserts on every channel with I/O switch. master section all squeaky clean rotary faders w/ pan. expansion fader pack.
Anyone know of anything close? For use as a mobile recording rig... needed for a hybrid tracking setup.

Good luck! The chances of finding stereo aux sends on a small frame are almost nil, and 4-6 mono is the norm. Most small boards are going to be unbalanced internally so adding balanced insert mean additional balancing and balanced input stage which nobody's going to pay for! As far as switchable inserts, that's what a patchbay is for! The best small boards are going to be a Small frame Soundcraft Delta, DDA/EV/Altec/ Dynacord/University Interface, the Crest rack mounts or a Small APBDynasonic .figure out what you can afford and what you can give up!

Yes, what E said is dead on, very few mixers have balanced inserts. Not to push my shit on you P, but I sold 1/2 of my Soundcraft Delta 200 board to wiz, I have another master section and a number of channel strips still, they're all fully JW modded, i will be listing it for sale soon as i have a new(to me) large frame delta 8 that i've got to have jim start doing his thing to, let me know if you're interested, you will be hard pressed to find anything on the planet that sounds close to as good as one of these imo. It can easily be racked as well(just takes a good amount of space).

I was thinking it was 8x4x2 or 12x2, the Crest monitor or APB monitor will have 8 mono aux plus 16 ch and sound pretty close to a modded delta ! A small DDA cs3 would be cool as well !

Would love a speck, but the lack of aux is annoying. I really would like the big console features without the footprint.

And I was WRONG ! Crest an APB 6 aux ! I once did wedges on a national tour with 2 crest Xmon racks the entire wedge rig was in 3 racks, the idea was we could get a bunch of opening gigs because we had zero foot print ! Those little Crests rocked! I had a big old Midas before that tour and all I missed was the VCA Groups!

I really would like the big console features without the footprint. 16 channels=$10k!!! and incidentally it doesn't spec as good as a modded delta, it also doesn't have pre's or eq's to go with the lack of aux's? really? why would someone want this? am i missing something?.. not trying to be snarky, it's a serious question, what is the attraction?

I am not sure... it's just always been in my head as something to pine for... then I realize the lack of features. I would actually love a Neotek Elite, but that will never happen.

Lots of love here for APB Dynasonics. Totally agree with Eric. Possibly the best analog live sound consoles ever built. Former Crest engineers, impeccable lineage, TERRIBLE market timing. They came out right when digital took over the live sound business. Check out the ProRack Monitor for your application. Depending on how you configure it in your system, it could have as many as sixteen mono sends. An old friend of mine, who owns a regional sound company, swears by 'em. I may be picking up a ProRack House from him this spring. He sold his PR Monitor before I could grab it. I've seen them on EB for around $1200-$1600.

I would buy one or a Crest rack but for live these days it's just to easy to go digital, no need for a drive and efx rack a couple of active boxes and done. Those APBs are great though !

Thanks for that feedback! I plan to use it in the studio for summing, setting up cue mixes, parallel compression, etc. It's just so darn versatile and sounds great. It's live days are over. My sound company owner friend does a charity gig every year where he breaks out the APBs that are just sitting in the warehouse now. He says it's hilarious to watch the FOH guys who have come up on the digital consoles listen to what they are getting from these (now) old analog boards and say, "so THAT's what music is supposed to sound like..."

I know A freind pulled out the XL200 for a C rig at a festival and everybody thought it was the best sounding rig! But digital is just so damn easy, and live is about easy and fast!

A 8 channel Soundcraft Delta in the rack package will do. The 4 groups have 8 additional inputs with EQ and aux sends.

Power consumption wise. How do these consoles, like the soundcraft and neotek compare to the summing mixers like the Mixmaster 20, sigma etc.
