One of the biggest revelations I ever had was eating fried chicken at a tiny roadside restaurant in Alabama. I learned that I've never had the real deal anywhere else. I felt the same thing about BBQ. I think it was West Virginia. Back woods road trip. Farmer had a hand-written sign out on the road, pit out behind the barn. Never had better.

Looking at these dates... Sep 22 - October 13. Probably have two nights in LA to split the journey...so get to Nashville around 25/26 Sep This time frame is based on holidays my wife has here.. ... Anything wrong with coming at that time...? I have been looking at accommodation options, and it seems there are quite a few "home stays" where people are renting out rooms with private facilities in their homes... thought could be kinda cool.. or absolutely terrifying.... Looking at renting a car for the entire time.. Could really use some help on where the best location would be to stay.. in that should I stay in a particular suburb or area.. I might just book two nights jn Nash before we get there then take it from there... cheers Wiz Oh man the 28th is the kids birthday! I'm going to have to come up with a great 11 year old boy specific reason for Nashville !

BBQ, must come to KC, the Mecca of Low and Slow! Author Bryant's and Gates the old school legends and Joes the New school legend all within 15min of my place.

The best BBQ I ever had by far was at a roadside place along old route 66 on the edge of a small town in Oklahoma. The people in both that and the one in Alabama were almost all local residents on a first name basis with the people working there.

If you decide to go that period I'll def consider going then too, instead of my loose July plans. And re accommodation, if yo're talking Air bnb, I think you'll be fine. I used it for my South Africa trip and I've talked to a lot of people about it and it seems to work great. As long as you read all about the place *and* the landlord. Rent from somebody with good and consistent feedback.

What is UBER like?
Wondering about using something like that to get around? Instead of hiring a car?
Cheers

You can find some just silly deals on car rentals and have complete freedom, almost everybody I know who has tried Uhber couldn't believe it could be worse than a Taxi, boy were they surprised ! Taxi drivers at least in most cases need to know where they are!

You can get a car rental (a.k.a. car hire) for as little as $105 for an entire week. But then you also need to deal with driving on the right side of the road!

I only made one mistake, last time I was in the states... just a little one... I turned into 4 lanes of oncoming LA peak hour traffic.. COMING STRAIGHT AT US.. I had gone down the wrong side of the road... 8) My future wife was screeching..I gunned it and we were speeding at the oncoming cars, flat out.. she's shrieking.... I had seen a bus lane about 100 yards up..I headed for that..I had no time to turn around... funny now.. terrifying then.. 8) I plan on being super super careful this time around... I have been looking for car hire...... its kinda frustrating, but also kinda fun 8) cheers Wiz

bump that last question.. we just paid for our airfares.. 8) Also, I am not sure I am going to bring an Acoustic with me... I don't want my good ones to get lost or smashed..and no point bringing a crap one. I found a place online that rents guitars out www.thompsonmusicrental.com/Stringed.htmlthought I could maybe grab one from them for a few days, do the recording, go to a few songwriter nights etc... thoughts? cheers Wiz

Hilton Garden Inn Nashville Vanderbilt Nashville, TN Home2 Suites Nashville Vanderbilt Nashville, TN
DAMN...this stuff is expensive. Of course, I guess the further away from downtown, the less expensive.
