All too often, unfortunately.

Slate makes more money posting on that forum than his entire advertising blitz combined. Same with Warren and all the other venders. Can't blame them really. If I was in their shoes, I'd probably kiss the ring, too.

I've been trying to cull my thoughts together about certain posters at that site and no one thing will do it. The threads these guys choose to show up in repeatedly is just indicative of hobbyists who exhibit goofy behavior. Constantly wasting their supposedly valuable time to post not only on a web forum but in threads that don't pertain to their craft, business or interest. One thing I've noticed, their always tossing a brand name around, they never use their real name and rarely, if ever is their work on display for users to examine and validate their often strong opinions. Any of you guys could be anyone, we likely wouldn't recognize each other and your opinions hold zero water with me until I can hear what you do. @johnkenn can go on about the CV4 all he wants, but take a listen to his work. He does good stuff to my ears and when he speaks about pieces of gear I'm going to be more inclined to listen to him or one of the other posters on here who actually posts there work.
May your work speak for itself.

I agree completely about the false names and lack of showing your work over there. If I can't hear something that you've done, I don't need your opinion. Give me some substance to validate your opinion, ya know.

Give me some substance to validate your opinion, ya know. Not always because the work is necessarily bad but the guy who does death metal telling you API preamps for everything might not mean a whole hell of a lot to a guy going for a fat 70s sound. Just helps give everyone a point of reference.

Lot of cats there that talk about gear that they've never used, but are just regurgitating what they've read.

Exactly, just sickening. Especially when most gear in my experience has never improved my work.
