Hello RGO! I've been lurking here for about 15 months now, I came across the site through the link in Jeff Steiger's email (I have since bought 20 CAPI units). I work in television production for one of the original 3 broadcast companies as an audio engineer, but went to school for music recording and that remains my passion. I'm probably the youngest person here by a good number of years, so I've mostly spent my time trying to absorb the nuggets of wisdom dispensed here.
This site has been refreshing in a lot of ways, most notably is the amount of experience and knowledge that gets freely exchanged without any secret ulterior motives. I can't count the number of times I waded through threads at the inferior site trying to learn about a piece of gear only to find out that the person screaming the loudest in it's favor was a distributor.
While this site has been good for expanding my knowledge about what's out there and what's worth my attention, it's been terrible for my wallet, so it's a love/hate relationship. Thank you John for putting together a place where people can come together and discuss gear and music without worrying about being buried in a heap of negativity and misinformation.
Any other lurkers out there that want to say hello?

Welcome to RGO, glad to have you here and yes it can be expensive, but at least it's healthy compared to others!

Thanks Eric! My addiction started with guitar pedals, i've since moved on to the hard stuff. now i hang out in shady online forums with other gearheads, alienated from my friends that "just don't get it"

Welcome to RGO, jdc! Be prepared to get beaten up by your wife for beeing permanently strapped for cash due to your purchases, turn into an audio geek babbling strange shit, laugh about stuff nobody around you will understand (if you don't accidentally live in Nashville TN) and burn your fingers with a soldering iron and your brain cells from electrotechnical theory in case you dive too deep into the DIY section. So, you have been warned and now for the fun stuff. Sit down, relax, take a cookie. (And don't ask for a free toaster or sta-level.) Best regards, Martin

Thanks for the welcome, MJB. Yes, I have a couple of them. One for standard tuning and one for slide. I just love the sound of them things, so I decided to wear my username on my sleeve, as it were...

Love that. I'm kinda partial to Tele's myself, but use my 335 to often to call myself "TeleGuy'.

Major influences: Jimi Hendrix (feel), Jeff Beck (melody), Lowell George and Sonny Landreth (what can I say?)

Sometimes I wish I had used Stratman, but it was taken. I am a long ways from being a boy. However, every time I plug in the strat (or tele, or paul for that matter), I feel like a little kid again!

Well... Sold my last motocrosser to buy my first strat. Started recording with a TEAC 3340. Played in bands, attended GIT, worked at Filmways Heider Recording, played in more bands, got an electronic engineering technology degree, played in more bands, worked as a product manager for an audio-for-video systems manufacturer, then as a video engineer for a post house, raised a family, stopped playing in bands, started writing songs, got a Pro Tools rig, wrote more songs, upgraded, wrote, upgraded... You know the deal. Somewhere in there, I had an argument with a table saw and my left hand lost. Now I am among the best two-fingered guitar players in the world :-) , and since I can't cover Jimi any more, am really serious about writing! These days, my day job is manager, my night job is writer/engineer/producer. I am finishing a CD. I will share some when it is ready. My current rig is a new Mini, PT 10, UAD Quad, RME FF400, and an analog 2-bus: xFilter, IGS S-type comp and a pair of Vintech x73i s for finishing. Seems to work okay; I will be interested to see what other folks think. From lurker to tell-all. RGO feels like a trustworthy place to me. Thanks for asking!

Good to know you little Stratboy. There's a lot of talent here, and some fine people too. I'm here, easy to find. Man, my website seriously needs an update. Those old m34's have degraded to the point of smelly garbage, aarrgghh.
