Curious, how much do you save instead of just buying the Retro Sta-Level?

I have a board I haven't built yet, but that thing is the heaviest board I have ever seen!

The Retro Sta-Level retails at $2,695. They're probably $2,000, 2,300 used if you can find one. So, is it worth the time and effort to build it to save $200 to $900 ?
I'm not diminishing the pride and satisfaction gained from DIY, just wonder about the trade off in time, and if it's worth it. Me, I'd rather put 15 hours into making the extra money than 50 hours to build something, but I don't know how long this kind of project takes.

Martin I Totally agree, the choice to DIY is a personal one, everybody has to decider if the time investment is worth it. I find the satisfaction that at this point I can build something. Anybody who is nuts enough to try had better realize that a Company like Retro spends considerable time auditioning such things as individual resistors.

This is one if the few DIY rigs that doesn't save a ton of cash over buying it outright.

I'm doing a Point to Point version now. After that I am doing a 175b.
I think I heard the Drip Sta next to the Retro and the Drip sounded better. I think Sal had the sound files. I could be wrong on who had the files. I believe they both used the same type of tubes as well which would make a difference. I know I have some serious cash in tubes alone for the PTP build.

I would say it's two different sounds...Seems like the 528 deals more with smoothing the mids and rounding the transients...The Sta seems to bring out the bottom...
