Thanks for the kind words monkeyxx. I try my best. As a capsule manufacturer, getting to work directly on a capsule in the mic it is going to be used in always results in getting the most out of a mic. Most manufacturers, like myself, offer these kinds of services. The initial cost for tweaking a capsule is low (about 50 or 60 dollars). For me being in europe, or others around the globe however can be problematic from a customer's standpoint to be sending their mic so far away and dealing with customs, etc. Usually this results never knowing how your capsule will be perceived or compared because you get so little direct influence on the final result. In this instance I'm glad my capsule gets showcased in Cat5's wonderful build. timcampbell I got to say this C 12 is absolutely stunning. I'd heard a sample that Shane ( category5) had put up several months ago with it and I remember commenting then that it might be the best sounding mic on the planet. Well now after using it, I'm completely sold. You do excellent work and so does he. I tracked all the vocals on this cover tune using the C 12 with very minimal processing (basically set the top and bottom filter) and I just love the result. Used it on buried acoustic too and it sounds great. Perfect for wolfey sources. BTW guys, I promise I only do these modern pop country covers to generate traffic to my SC page. Even then only if the song isn't a complete turd. This one here is one of the less stinkier ones I've heard in awhile. Almost no mention of alcohol in it, almost.. Great work Shane and Tim!! https%3A//soundcloud.com/herb-music/roller-coasterHoly Smokes Cowboy! Sounds killer! What did Jordan sing into?

The C 12 category5. I was about to put the CV 4 up but thought I'd try her on this. Filtered the top a little but not much on the bottom. Perfect.

You both sound amazing on it. Watch that open headbasket. Dust and spit can get in easily. I recommend covering it when you turn it off. Residual charge can actually attract crap. You sure it's stuck in omni and not fig8? Sounds awfully focused for omni, unless your room is completely dead.

I think hearing what Shannon can do says one thing, unless you know what the capsule your going to put in your mic sounds like and you love it, not having a conversation with Sinsay and seeing what at least he can do for you for the money is nuts. I do love Tim's capsules, and a old M7 is the heart of everyone of my microphone wet dreams, but After learning Shannon was responsible for the Capsules in the KAT 5 and hearing Randy's Mic and John's the fact that we can work with somebody to get a mic to sound the way we want it to sound, priceless , with for what it is a small price tag.

man herbie, that c12's got it all. I also really noticed how natural and yet controlled the s's and sibilance were, nice sense of sheen on the top, very articulate and prsent but not hard, just right : with a hint of air !
nice track !

Yeah and that was with NO de-esser on it at all. Amazing. I could have probably got it dialed in a little better on that track but it's good like it is. BTW, that's that App Studio Germanium pre again. jsteiger helped Pier dial that thing in with some valuable component advise and Pier used some Capi parts. It rocks. I just love it.

You know Herbie , i've been listening to your recordings for like 3 years and I am not surprised to hear there is little on that track cus there was a naturalness to it and I know you are a direct from source guy.
Now I think Cat 5 has tweaked his c12 a little: cinemag transformer ? that's a fine sounding mike !

I liked the first take of the three mics best, that was the 47, right? I do love the C12 sound too, it has an ethereal quality that can't be imitated. My UM17 with the Blueline is similar, not as bottom heavy as the 47, but it sure sits in a track nicely like the C12.

I believe the first take is the C12, when you get mics at this level, it's a matter of what sounds best where, they all sound great.

Thanks Tony. Well, there it is, I just listened, didn't download, so I assumed they were in the order cowboy mentioned. So, I liked the C12 the most, how bout that, dang, gotta get me one of those someday. The MK47 was the "ethereal " one, that was my second choice. There's a little natural compression on it too, I thought.

As far as the 47, that compression thing is what I hear too, but there is something else about it that serves as an identifier(probably what you called etherial?), it's very subtle, and i really have no words to describe it, it just has a thing about it that's a bit spooky in the best kinda way. Cowboys mic sounds very similar to my MK47, cant wait to get JK's going this weekend to see if it sounds the same? I'll try to put up samples of JK's as well as mine to see what is. all of that said, i'd take the 47 or c12 with Shannons voodoo capsule work over any other capsule available...period, i mean listen to what he made that stock mediocre circuit CV4 sound like with capsule manipulation alone.. that's insane!

Capsule Voodoo !! i think Sinsay should sell T's with that and TimC can do one in swedish too ! Good one Tony !! I must admit the capsule voodoo 251 sinsay mod of the matachunger build is whispering sweet nothings: bought a $14 tax software and it came back with a crazy refund number, oh man if only the fed bean counters, think nothing ary !

Funny, when I mentioned the 3rd file reminded me of my mic, I was thinking it was the C12, which shouldn't be, since I have the same Thiersch capsule as the MK47, and then corroboration when I realized I had them switched around in my head. I'm glad my ears did the talking and not my brain, and that I was able to hear the similarity between the MK47 and my mic. It means my ears aren't being fooled, regardless of which mic was which. You know how easy it is for your mind to play audio tricks sometimes. Ever turn a knob on the wrong plug and think you hear a difference, hate to say it, but it's been known to happen. Rarely, but once is too many times !

It sounds a lot like the UM 17, (which was designed in the vein of the M49). I love this mic. So useful.
