After the commercial studio I was working in closed, which had a seperate Control and Live room,I had to move back to my basement. So, I'm dealing with a dual purpose recording/mixing room. I'm not going to build new walls, as my wife would divorce me. Grandchildren on the way. Anyway, my room in not symmetrical, though it is approximately 17'x17'x8'. I have a gaping hole in the room at the alcolve in the SE corner of the room that leads to the stairs to the first floor. I have bass traps in the corners of the alcove, but I'd like to seal it off with a curtain. If I put a curtain across that open space-which is 91 inches- would it screw up my room acoustics? Here's my layout. Many thanks to anybody who shares their thoughts. Frank

Nope, it may reflect a little bit of higher freqs back in, but unless the curtain is made of something heavy and rigid, U'll be good to go man

I ask because we had a very live/echo chamber like third room in the commercial studio I was in and we put up an old, thick movie theater stage curtain-heavy but not rigid- along one side of the room and it really quieted the room down. So, given the almost 8 foot distance I'm talking about for the curtain, I'm wondering if I should to thin-sheer, mid, or thick. Wish I knew more about acoustics....fascinating but mysterious stuff to me beyond the basics.

moving blankets are usually great, if the are behind it is primarily for bass trapping, you'll be good to go. The surface of the blanket can be a little reflective in the hi's depending, but i wouldn't worry about it.
