Not sure if it was how the files were processed but all of them have a buzzy/fuzzy/wooly sound to them that isn't flattering to rap.

As a Pimp I hated doing shoot outs, I always found the client always had strange concepts of things, Mackies would win mixer shoot outs because the taper on the inputs made it seam like they had tons more gain, that customers would call headroom. Mic shoot outs were the strangest those who can't sing ( I can't but then I'm the first guy to end up with a higher range after 6 month on vent) what they would call transparent or Euphonic wasn't and a mic that compressed would be called dynamic !

...some interesting results...one of the cheapest entries fared very well...and some of the assumed favorites disappoint...

When they first showed the guys, I thought they were in their own studio. Looks at all the monitors these ya-hoo's are using! Nope...Vintage King showroom. Cool looking joint.
I really liked the Manley for that guy. The 87 was the biggest disappointment of all in my eyes. (Only watched the video, haven't downloaded the files yet).

Without knowing the mic preamps, ADC's etc, it's all a euphonic crap shoot.
