Any RME UFX users.
I'm looking to upgrade from my steinberg MR816x. Unit has some limitation. Served me well though
Interested in the Apollo. But i am reading there is some limitations on PC systems. Have to get a separate firewire/thunderbolt adaptor. Can be costly. Also reading some folks are also having problems with the drivers on PC.
also interested in the RME UFX. How does AD/DA on these sound?
thanks in advance
or any other suggestions? PC only

Never used one but I've heard from many that the RME stuff is really good. I'd say it would be a great interface.

Before the guy removed the converter thread on TSTSNBM (the site shall not be named), the UFX was competing with the big boys as far as conversion. This might be a really good choice.

Thats what I've read and heard as well.
Heard the conversion is pretty amazing. On par with the big boys. $2500 in australia though.
Still interested in both. Going to check how the apollo compatibility with pc turn out. Rme does look like a killer interface. Gonna wait a while and see if any good deals come up, or maybe something new comes out?
Other option is to go adat out of steinberg and into another AD/DA. Then using the steiny only as a interface and the conversion of another box with 8 I/O. Upgrade the conversion as well. Only using the A/D of the mr816 currently. Monitoring through a Dangerous music source.
Not in a rush for this though. Want to get the right box

Do you track a lot of drums? If so, I'd defiantly recommend the Apollo for the front end DSP. And it's great for tracking low end information like kick and bass.

But I have enough outboard pre's atm. About to get a heritage 73jr. Cant wait. How you enjoying the heritage cowboy?

I had (have in a closet) a Nuendo 8io 96k running into a Nuendo 9652 PCI card, which are re-branded RME products. The convertors and the stability were amazing. My new PC didn't have a PCI slot, so I got a UFX, and I love it for the same reasons. For my primary channels, I run a Burl A/D into the UFX, and use the UFX convertors on those rare occasions when I need to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously.
The Totalmix software is extremely flexible, and I find the effects to be more than useable to inspire vocalists. I never track with effects, though I sometimes have used a UAD2 1176 or an la-2a for monitoring only.
